BRIAN my name is DUANE your shift soleniod is inside transmission
so there for you will have to take it too a trans tech and that is whats wronge with it it wont shift in to over drive
Either one is easy to change. But you have to take the pan off the trans on the bottom. There is about 12 to 14 bolts holding it on. When you get the pan down look to the drivers side and you will see 2 solenoids there. The one you will need to change is the inner one. there will be one bolt holding it in place. And if you have to change the converter one it will be on the passenger side near the frount of the trans. It will have 4 wires going to it. They both will be in the valve body.

There is a solenoid switch that locks up your torque converter to get a 1:1 input for your transmission. This solenoid (or less likely its circuit) does not operate. You probably don't feel the difference in driveability but this definitely affects fuel mileage of the car... The solenoid for your particular application is available for about 60$ Canadian at NAPA auto parts here in Canada. Not too sure about USD$ and labour costs...

Your transmission should still work if the solenoid goes bad. It will just shift funny

P0740 is a Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction, you will need to have just this circuit tested, it is mostly just a defective Torque converter clutch solenoid in the trans or a defective connection to the trans, u do not need another overhaul.

Unless you live in a state that requires an emissions test, forget it. The factory fix is to replaced the converter and internal seals and bushings. These states machines will not let you run a test with the light on.

You have to be very careful with input shaft rings. They like to eat into the pump stater. Also always buy new vb don't buy rebuilt because they only work 2 out of 5 times. I know this for experience
