I had a similar thing happen to me not too long ago.
My 2000 Chevy Blazer was in park, and when I tried to turn the key, the stupid thing wouldn't turn over. Had it towed to the local garage and they looked at it. Of course, they had no problem getting it to turn over at all. (Transmission having been shifted to neutral while towing.) I'm no mechanic, so my mechanical techobabble is a bit off, but it had something to do with the electronic shifter not making a solid contact. (Ever notice you can sometimes tap the shifter and the dashboard registers as shifting gears?)
They suggested the next time it happens, to throw the thing into Neutral (not tap the shifter) and then try to turn the key. If it doesn't start, then throw it back into Park and try again.
I'm not sure if this qualifies to be a solution, that's why it is marked as "I have the same problem". The problem hadn't re-occurred, so it should realistically be labeled "I had the same problem."
Let me know if this works for you.
