Transmission vibrations to heavy shaking between 30-45 mph

2000 mit montero sport. 98000 + miles. started shaking and vibrating as it shifts between lower and higher gears. around 30-45 mph.after it shifts into high it smooths out and at normal driving speed it drives smooth and once in motion dosen't seem to react like this if I fall to lower speed then back up.

It seems only to happen from a stopped position. At times it vibrates longer than other times. While towing a boat the other day (small whaler) it was noticably more pronounced. I checked trans fluid while warmed up and it seems good and at the right level. I put a little bit in just in case(2 ounces at the most) and felt no changes in preformance.

thanks, scott

This requires a lot for work and tools,I'd take it to a local transmission sop and have it checked out before you EMB up in a real pickle,Andy Master Mechanic at Chevy dealership.

Tranmission mount is broke change it before it breaks your motor mounts.

  • worf102 Jul 31, 2011

I know I have to replace the Tranmission Mount but How do I replace the Mount on My 2000 Galant. Do I use the standard lift the car on jack stands then Jack up the the powertrain by placing a block under the oil pan then lift slightly with the jack and at that point there is a long brace under the tranmission before I can get to the tranmission Mount can I take this brace off and will the tranmission hold with the jack under the oil pan? Please give me aqn Idea of how to do it not just to do it.

I have a 2002 Toyota camry and it hard shifts while driving and also first thing in the morning when I put it into gear it jerks and when I go over 60 mph, my steering wheel shakes. What is the problem?

Probably more than one problem. For transmission use Lucas Transmission Slip, should solve hard shift. Also remember a transmission fluid change is recommended every 60,000 miles.

The vibrating steering is usually tire related. Balance and align

Vibration in transmission

I do not know if this vehicle has a torque converter lockup or not, but sounds like it. Does the transmission stop shaking when you go over 65? Some vehicles have a torque converter lockup, which means when the vehicle is traveling at a certain speed in high gear the torque converter "locks" and there is no slippage to the transmission resulting in better fuel economy. if the torque converter doesn't "unlock" when you slow down to say 45 then the engine will "lug" causing vibration. If this is the case you are not hurting anything by driving, just shift to 3 when it shakes then upshift under lighter load, or take it to a shop that replaces transmission sensors.

Lexus ES300 Shakes/Vibrates At 45 MPH

Major transmission problem. That's what the flashing Check Engine light means.

If the Check Engine light is on all the time, it means there is a "fault code" stored in the computer. Take it to an auto parts store (like Auto Zone) and ask them to read the codes to see what it says. They should do it for free. If they won't, go to another auto parts store.

2000 Montero Sport shutters/vibrates in 2 and 3 gears

Could be a wheel bearing and/or a rear differential pinion bearing, which usually get worse when under load(going up hill). I would definitely start there.
