Do i have to remove oil pan and loosen crank bolts to replace the rear main seal? is it easyer to pull the eng. and replace seal? how long is the standard repair time to replace rear main seal?
Several things, the rear main seal is accessable by removing the transmission. if this vehicle is standard transmission, then would recomend new clutch at this time given the amount of labor involved. if automatic, remove drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, and flexplate ....replace rear main. approx 5 hrs.

i had the same problem and it turned out to be the gasket on the rear main seal housing not the rear main seal.

Hello, it's not "easy" but, it's doable.
You'll need to follow the instructions and don't take shortcuts. ask for help if you need it.
Use this link to get an idea of what is involved. Ignore the "remove transmission" part. It can be done without removing the tranny. If you decide to do this buy a service manual to help you. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

You must pull the transmission. GM has not made a 2-piece seal in probably the last 30 years.
