Changed spark plugs on 03 ford escape , check engine light on now

I noticed I had a small amount of transmission fluid under my car, I took my car over to my friends boyfriend so he could check it out, while me and my friend went shopping he took it up on himself to change my spark plugs, which has nothing to do with transmission, he changed the spark plugs now my check engine light is on and it never was before as well as my car is idling EXTREAMLY rough, Im scared to even drive it, What could he have done to cause this, My check engine light has never ever came on

so now 600.00 later my car is fixed, but this is my next question, is it possible even a tiny bit possible, that when my friend started the car to bring it back to me that the check engine light and idle had not started yet? he says it wasnt doing that when he brought it back to me, but the shop where i had it repaired said 2 coil packs were damaged and they showed them to me as well as mixed or crossed wires

SOURCE: transmission problems after lines changed.

leave it sit, let them see it,and say it's not running right now. ask them it was in there for a leak, why didn't they top it off? and ask them what are they going to do about it slipping? if they say nothing, pay for it and make sure to KEEP your reciets. tell them, you'll get another opinion from a tranni shop and you'll ask them if not adding fluid is the cause of it acting up now? fyi, this will cause them never to work on your car again. everything i said will **** them off and ban you from that shop. now, if they offer great. see, most shops carry insurance where if they ******* like that, the insurance will pay them to put in a new tranni and labor at no cost to yourself. it will raise their rates and they do their best to avoid this but if it means keeping a good rep, they normally will do so just to keep a good feedback from customers.

Light should have stored code. Go to local autoparts chain & get free scan for codes and go from there. Saves all that guess work & money a lot of times. Write down code(s) and let us know.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light came on while driving. No

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The check engine light is on because ECM (Control Module) detected a fault with your car's system. ECM has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. You'll need to get the codes checked from a nearby dealer/mechanic. Please revert with the codes so that I can tell you where exactly the issue is.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

SOURCE: I have a ford Escape

I'am only going to quess here.
The spark plugs have no bearing on anything.
The alternator is usually a remanufactured item. That said, you don't always get new bearings in the case. I wouldn't suspect they are the noise, you hear though.
IF, you didn't have these issues before the alternator switch, You, know where the current problem is.
Meaning, either the new alternator has the wrong pulley on it,and the belt is not tracking correctly, thus putting pressure on the sides of the tension and idler pulleys. Now you have a real mess, noise and belt about to chew it's self apart.
Second,if I'am wrong, remember,I am quessing, then you have other problems, not properly addressed, for some reason, when they relieved you of some money for the alternator isses.

The steam indicates coolant leaking into your cylinders either through a blown head gasket, cracked head, or cracked cylinder liner / liner o-ring.Smoke that only comes out at startup would indicate that your valve stem seals are leaking, allowing a small amount of oil to get into your cylinders while the vehicle is not running.Check the oil level. If its low get it full. And check if its getting low again. If its getting then its oil leak. Also what is the color of smoke. If its white smoke:---There is coolant leak and it often means burning antifreeze in the car. If its black smoke:---Black smoke is burning oil. If it is blue smoke:-- Blue smoke is usually transmission fluid due to a leaking modulator valve. ---------- It has to be checked, the color of smoke to confirm the fault. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

How to flush ford falcon 4,0L engine automatic 1996 model transmission

I'm not familiar with your vehicle, however the principle is the same for virtually all auto transmissions.
Get underneath your vehicle and look on the transmission fluid pan. Somewhere at the lowest point you will see a drain plug.

The plug may either be a nut or a recessed square, or even a hex recess.

Undo the drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain into a large plastic dish/container.

The link below shows you generic images of drain/filler plugs. It is not your vehicle:
auto transmission filler plug Google Search

When drained, replace the plug.

Then look for the filler plug. It will be higher up on the transmission case than the drain plug. Again, it may be a nut or a recessed square/hex.

You then have to use bottles of transmission fluid to refill the transmission. It can be messy ... The small bottles of transmission fluid - they have small tubes attached - can be very awkward to turn upside down when you're under the vehicle.

Alternatively, if you have a a long tube and a funnel you can use it to refill the transmission via the transmission dipstick tube. It can take a while to fill it as the fluid is slow to go down the tube.

Be prepared to get transmission fluid everywhere ...

Replace the same amount of fluid that came out. Start the car and move it through its range of gears. Check the fluid level.

It's not a difficult job. The link below is an easy guide:
How to Add Transmission Fluid
The job is worth doing. It will extend the life of your transmission. Most people never bother. Transmission fluid is supposed to be changed every 20,000 miles.

How to change a transmission screen on a 05' ford

The filter is not replaced unless an overhaul of the trans-axle is needed, It involves the removal of the trans-axle and partial disassembly to accomplish the filter replacement. That is only if trans failure is suspected, and diagnosis requires removal and inspection of the filter. The filter removal and replacement is procedure 42 out of 72 in the disassembly manual and 12 different Ford specific SST's (Special Service Tools) are needed. I did however, include the procedure for the normal drain and fill service performed at the dealer.
I hope this info helps!

My car has a small but noticeable jerking feeling when i am driving it shifts okay but you can feel a little bit of hesitastion while driving my husband thought maybe our gas filter shoulb be changed do...

Aside from a mechanical issue, or incorrect fluid level, you may want to consider having the transmission flushed. The fluid gets tired and dirty over time and will decrease transmission performance. The fluid should be red in color. If its brownish or almost black its time to have it changed.
There are lots of things that can affect the engine and transmission. Mainly: Air Filter, Engine Oil and Oil Filter, Plugs and Plug Wires, Transmission Fluid, and the Fuel Filter. If you dont know how old these items are, or if they are the originals I recommend you replace them. Any of these alone can contribute to the issue you mentioned.

You may have gotten water into the transmission particularly the sensors and solenoid if it is an automatic. Check also the fluid if there are water contents. If they are you need to have it replaced.

Where's transmission filter located?

Filter is not in the pan- my wife has an '03 Tribute with the 3.0, and trust me, it's not under the pan. From everything I have read, it's inside the tranny someplace and not accessible without tearing the thing out and down.

And, yes there is a drain plug on the side/bottom of the tranny case- you can use a 3/8" ratchet w/o a socket on it to loosen/tighten.
