Two bolts, probably. Gas tanks usually have 2 metal straps that secure the tank to the car. Usually the straps are hooked in at the front of tank and the securing bolts are removed at the rear of the tank, one bolt for each strap. Sometimes (some cars) the strap bolts are removed from the front of the tank.
Once the bolts are loosened, tank will start lowering. Then you can remove the fuel lines, the electrical connector (if you haven't already), the filler hose, and then remove tank.

I need to drop the fuel tank in my 02 Mitsubishi Diamante what is the best route to take to do so

I don't know the precise method of removal but I advise you to put safety first.

Disconnect the battery. Use only inspection lights that are incapable of being a source of ignition. The wrong choice of lighting is the most common cause of garage fires.

Ensure there are no sources of ignition and no smoking in the vicinity and the work space is well ventilated.

Before beginning ensure the fuel tank is empty or close to empty so it is light enough to handle without liquid swilling around inside making it over-balance.

Ensure all the nuts, bolts and other fixings will remove easily when the time comes. If the top of the tank is accessible from inside the car to remove the pipes and wires, this is the next stage.

If the tank must be partially lowered to access the pipes and wires whatever is likely to hamper the process must be removed or disconnected and pushed aside. Generally the filler must be released next and the tank supported on a jack or a stand while the straps or fastenings are released so the tank can be lowered far enough to remove pipes and wires as required.

Plastic tanks can be a problem and as they age the problem gets bigger. The fuel pump and gauge sender is often retained by a large plastic screw ring like a large jar top.

Speed is essential when dealing with these. If the pump and gauge unit is to be replaced get it out as quickly as possible and screw the ring back on.

Failure to do this could mean the tank needs replacing. The screwed neck is apt to grow when the ring is removed and delay could mean the ring will never screw down again...

It may just be the fuel pump seal at the top of the tank. it has to be dropped for a definite diagnosis. It is rare but the tank seams occasionally crack too. Good luck.

How do i replace front fuel pump on a 1995 ford f150 5.0litre extended cab dual tanks how do i remove tank

May be easier to loosen rear box bolts, remove the
front bolts & tip up the bed, rather than lay on your back
& have to drop the tank & that way you don't have the
fuel removal issue, can stand there & just work on top
of tank

WHERE IS THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED ON THE TANK. I CANT DROP THE TANK THE BOLT IS STRIPPED AND WONT COME OUT. I WILL CUT A HOLE 5" LIKE SOME OF THE EARLIER MODELS ALREADY HAVE.BEHIND THE SEAT.

Cutting a hole in it could cause you to get exhaust gas inside the cabin and I do not recommend you do this. It is easier if you just break off the bolt and drop the tank then replace the bolt. If you try to drill it out you could short out the wires on the tank or drill a hole in the gas tank and cause an explosion. Thanks for using fix-ya.
