I have a 2000 alero an it started missing an making a popping noise out of the tail pipes then the trac an service engine light came on

Go to an auto parts store and have them scan for a code. That should give you an indication of what is wrong with it.

You need to have the car at a repair shop- to have it properly
diagnosed by people that have the knowledge & proper equipment
to find the problems

You don't call your doctor & ask what is wrong with you

i have a 2000 alero and my "trac off" light came on and wouldnt turn off. I found out that it was my passenger front wheel bearing was bad i replaced to and it went away

Check spark plug coil pack's, make sure that there firing, look for spark at end of boot.

HAVE CAR SCANNED.TO SEE WHAT CODE YOU ARE GETTING.SOUND LIKE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS + TRAC SYSTEM.COULD BE WIRE GROUNDING CIRCUIT CAUSING THE TRAC LIGHT TO COME ON.

Sounds like a fouled O2 sensor. Dripping water from the tailpipe is caused by the Catalytic converter cooling and condensing, and is usually considered normal. Have someone rev the engine while you check the exhaust for flow at the tailpipe and it should push your hand back. If not, your exhaust pipe has a clog. This MAY be the cat, but can also be a rotted resonator.

If you can tell where the sound is coming from. Look for any smoke venting out. It maybe that the exhaust manifold gasket is going bad. This will cause exhaust to escape from the engine before the tail-pipe. If this is the case, it will not pass SMOG. Could be dangerous for you health as well.
If this is the case, you should be able to hear the gas escape when giving it some gas in Park. Could be the muffler or any part of the exhaust depending on where it is coming from.

There is a button (on the shifter console in my alero) that turns oof and on the "trac". I'm not sure of it's purpose but if I push that button, the "Trac Off" light comes on.

check the abs sensors make sure they are connected. Also check your wheel bearings if faulty may cause these lights to come on.

I have a car in the shop right now same thing - it is being caused by a misfire. Need a real technition to diagnose the problem (auto zone - advance auto can't diagnose the problem - only read the code)
mine was caused by a failing fuel injector. good luck
