Dealer cant program new BCM?? Help!

Have a bad BCM on my car. Has all the typical problems that you get, not starting in warm weather, flickering lights, dash gauges not working. Bought a new one and took it to a GM dealer to get it programmed. They said the programming failed because the cars security system kept rejecting the new BCM, it couldnt get by the pass-lock thing. Is there any way to get around it? Its a GM dealer, but they don't know Saturns super well, and they said they have no idea what to do. Please help. The BCM is getting so bad that I cant even run heat in my car this winter, or it wont start again if I stop and get gas or anything. thanks

But i dont see how a short or hardly any of these problems could be caused only when the car is hot? It is very regular that way. Cold start in morning, no problem. But the whole rest of the day, unless its been in the shade with the windows down....maybe. I been taking the BCM out and putting it in freezer often, and it works every time then. Any thoughts on that?

SOURCE: Saturn wont start

Hi,

Intermittent problem such as what appears that your car has is at best be describe as a test of patience.

Initially would appear to be electrically related. Based on your post/description, pls try and check the ignition wiring (going to the ignition switch behind the tilt lever) along the steering column.

Of course the normal checks should also be considered, battery, battery cables, fuse and fuse box (both in the engine bay and driver side of the center console), relay bank, harness and connectors. Manual cleaning and a spray of electrical contact cleaners should also be performed when in doubt.

Though the technically correct procedure would be to have your car's computer checked/scanned and the readings interpreted.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: SL2 ? 2000 starting problem

I had the same problem at one time and what the problem was is a short or an exposed wire connected to the starter which causes the voltage to fluctuate which in turn activates a security feature that stops the flow of fuel to the injectors. The car actually senses the possibility of a spark which could possibly ignite the fuel and be a fire hazard. If you turn the ignition on and off repeatedly after a certain amount of time the car will start and run fine. It is a very intermittent problem.

SOURCE: possible bad alternator?

I went through three alternators before we found a good one for our saturn sl2. Now she has been good for two years. All I did was go back to where we bought it from, they hooked up the alternator to a machine and gave us a new one when it read that it was faulty.

2006 impala ss. The alternator is brand new and the battery is good. The speakers are making a slight popping noise and the interior lights are flashing/flickering im thinking its the BCM ?

Instead of think it's the BCM Take it to a qualified repair shop an have it test . Just so you know for sure an don't waste your money ! Beside , when changing a BCM the new one needs programming , an your not going to be able to do it . Dealer only for the most part .

S10 pick truck bcm will not start with new bcm

That is because you need to have the new BCM programmed by the dealer.

Where do i start with the electrical problems on my 2003 tiburon. My parking lights started to just stay on or flicker on and off killing my battery, to where i had to start leaving them on permanately to...

I've had my '03 Tib's BCM replaced 3 times now. If you have the chip-in-key factory security feature, you can't use a second-hand BCM because it's programmed to your specific key.

I'm not aware of any cases where the BCM caused the speakers to crackle, but the parking light thing definitely sounds like the BCM.

Every now and then the car will not start security interups starting 2002 impala

Have a shop that specializes in the eletric systems on your car test the Body Control Module (BCM). This is a weak spot on many GM products. A new BCM for an Impala should cost about $230, plan on another $200 for the diagnosis, replacment, and programming. The dealers typically want between $700 and $1,100 for this.

Ignition problem 2003 pontiac will not start

I had a like problem with my 2003 Aztek. I brought it to a dealer and I was told it was the Egnition Switch ($50.00) and the BCM ($250.00), ($100.00) diagnonsis fee, so I bought the 2 part threw a freind for a discount price and put them in myself and had the vehicle towed (88.00) to a different dealer (because it will not start without the BCM being programmed) to get the BCM programmed ($95.00). After programming the car still would not start. BCM and Egnition Switch was not my problem and my car was mis-diagnosed my the first dealer. Now after wasting approx $500.00 the seconfd dealer had found the problem, 2 days later. 3 little wires inside the car under neath the brake pedal what were getting wear spots on the lines and one was fully corroded and broke. My bill at dealer number 2 was $655.00 which included the $88.00 tow and the $95.00 programming fee. If you plan on getting a dealer to help you diagnose your car, don't just stick to one, try two. You may be surprised what you hear.
