It sounds much like failed linkage which is better than about anything else you checked.
I recommend procuring a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car.
It will not only help you locate the source of your current misery but serve you well in the future too.
They are available at about any auto parts store for ~$20 US

it doesent have to be slipping to go bad.youve lost reverse and it could be the solenoid on the side of the trasnmission but i dont think so since it would affect all the gears

Yes your corect,,,, i would look at the TPS, If there was more things going on i would look into the transmission, And you kno what a lot of people make this error and after spending 4 grand on a transmision it still does it,Yikes!,,,,,,,,,,, I inclosed a link you can read where i wrie at that will give you tips and tricks on the diesel and the driveline. Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.
