When did you last change your fuel filter? If it's dirty it will cause that problem. If your like most people they don't even know they have a fuel filter. With the rotten gas we get today I'd change mine with every oil change. Mine is less than 10 bucks.

How many miles? does it idle in park ok? have it had a tune up ? have you tried a gas cleaner that you pour in the gas tank?

It has 77K on it. It does the same thing in park as in drive, just recently bought the car used so, I am not sure when the last tune up was done on the vehicle. Have not tried a gas cleaner in the gas tank.

I hope you did not buy some ones head ache. I see a lot of cars that people buy that have hidden problems. so no codes

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Aveo - engine light and hold lights flash

I also had the same problem, But the problem lies in the switch the actual hold switch on my aveo there is a side entry way you can pop off the one on the left will give you access to the switch. what could of happen is theres is condensation in inside the switch. then when it gets cold it freezes causing the switch to malfunction. This could happen either by spilling something on the switch or using a cleaning solvent like armorall, YOU MUST BE CAREFULL WITH ANYTHING LIQUID NEAR THE HOLD SWITCH. Also the car going from warm when you drive then cold when you park it at night. My car was in warranty and remind you I came up with is the dealership had no idea what was wrong. they reseted the computer it worked for a week then was happening again. I have knoweldge in switches/wiring so i decided to check pot the switch and open it up and sure enough there was condensation took it to dealer told them to try a new switch works perfect and going on 5 months with out problems. Replacing the switch can solve pretty much every problem that is stated here i think. Also take a look at the wiring and connections for older aveos

SOURCE: hold light blinking, check engine light on, engine slows down

check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.

Why will our 2004 Chevy Aveo not shift into fourth gear or "overdrive"?

Connecting it to a scan tool will give you the answer in the form of codes, AKA DTC codes. The engine light is the clue, the scan tool tells the answers via the codes. All the codes are online.

How to fix 2005 chevy aveo sedan?

Engine light is on steady not blinking in 2005 chevy aveo

There is a 'hard' code stored in the computer which can seriously adversely affect engine performance. Have a parts store scan the code for free, or buy and OBD-II Scanner ($98 or so plus tax at Walmart) of your own which can tell you in plain English what system is giving your car engine trouble.

Check Engine light staying on in Chevy Aveo. Yes

Many things can cause this problem...unfortunately the only proven way to remidy this situation is to have your car scanned by a reputable mechanic with a diagonstic machine $40-$80. This will tell what exactly is causing the check engine light to come on, in the long run its much cheaper replacing whats wrong than trying to replace things that arnt wrong.

Engine light

I doubt the gas cap is related to the light, though hopefully you can get a replacement for it because it can be dangerous. As for the check engine light I'm not sure what it could be. Is the car running making noises, does it stall?? If there are no obvious symptoms, you might need to take it to a mechanic so they can read the error message from the cars computer and determine where th eproblem is.
