Negative cable on battery was loose. After replacing the car will not start. At one point did receive message that theft system problem car may not restart. Had no issues with the vehicle before the cable came loose. I am concerned that while moving the connection back and forth to attempt a start that voltage may have caused an electrical issue.

you can reset the system by turning key to on position for 5-10 mins and then try starting it but its probably a short or grounding prob try the engine to chassis ground

make sure your key is clean try again, if not the system will tell you to wait 3 mins while key is in ignition this will reset the system and dash will tell you to start vehicle, you should be fine after that, common cause dirty key!!!!!!!!
The car is not reading the key and thinks someone is trying to steal it. Try another key or see a dealer.

Ahh, so when it decides not to start, the engine does not turn over at all?......this sounds like a loose ground/connection on the starter motor itself.....you will probably need to inspect it which means removing the intake manifold.................If you have little experience working on this engine,I'm afraid you will need to take it to a professional......
The problem could also be your starter relay,...have a look at the fuse block under the hood in the engine bay and check that all relays are seated properly.
