Not sure what year this is but it may be the audio box that make the noise or the switch in the cylinder lock itself,
When the key is removed it release a lever that makes a connection and if lights are on it sounds the box but if this lever is worn then no noise, try to wiggle key and see is it works,

If you can tell me the year ,make ,model and i will tell you where the box is located, or just look under the dash and follow the chime, most of the time it is a plug in chime box but other times it is screwed to a brace on the dash framing with same concept except on this one you would remove the connector.

Hi Johnny, thanks for your comment, the vehicle is a Landrover Discovery series 2 TD5 XS first Reg. Dec. 1999 when you say follow the chime, there is no sound at all.

SOURCE: 1997 Toyota corolla - warning noise when lights left on - not working on drivers side!

The ground circuit for the driver side door switch is compromised, or the door switch is bad. Try this: Remove the black rubber cover from the door swich. Using a 10 millimeter wrench or socket, loosen & tighten the switch retention bolt. See if the dome light flickers. If so, the ground on the switch is bad, & just needs cleaned up. If not, remove the switch, and touch the wire behind the switch to the body,or the bolt hole. If the dome light lights, you need a door switch. Your problem is entirely in the door switch/ground/wiring. Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.

SOURCE: landrover td5 abs light and traction control light

Sounds like a faulty Diff Lock switch to me.
Most of the D2 models till late 03 model year use a version of firmware on the SLABS ECU that when diff-lock is detected puts the ABS and Traction Control systems into a lower response mode. Late model vehicles came with factory fit diff-lock linkages as a option, and the firmware was revised to allow this to operate in conjunction with the traction control.
Therefore ABS and TC illuminating (but with no HDC) means your TC/ABS is in the lower performing mode, and your diff-lock may be in, but more likely the £12 switch has broken, and needs replacing. It's a bugger of a job, and can be done from underneath the vehicle (did mine this way) the switch is p/no PRC2911, and just unscrews. It's located just behind the diff-lock stud above where the front prop fits.
Your options are thus:
1) Remove the front prop. Work blind and try and change it by feel alone. Helps if you can clean the area off before too, don't want any rubbish falling in the box! Unplug & Undo the switch, IIRC it's a 12mm head, and a stubby spanner is the tool for the job. Remove, swap the lower nut from the old switch to the new one (important for the length) and put back in. Don't do up too tight, or it may shear off (as my friend did 2 days after I did mine! He kept tightening it...) Pop the connections on and the front prop and the fault should go away. You could also just disconnect the switch if you want. IIRC open circuit is no-diff lock anyway, but if that's not correct then make up a link with some spade connectors and link it out then.
2) Remove the centre console, drill the rivets and attack from above. Same tools needed, just you can see what you're doing.
I favoured Option 1. YMMV!

Your whirring noise and loss of power may indicate the diff-lock is engaging occasionally and may indicate damage to the transfer box.

SOURCE: Landrover Discovery TD5, ABS wan rning light

Hi:
The most likely cause of the ABS light coming on is a faulty wheel speed sensor. Your vehicle will still drive normally, but your ABS light means you don't have Anti Lock Brakes functioning. An easy way to figure out what is going on is to have an auto parts store download the codes on your vehicle, and they can tell you what tripped the ABS light, and you can go from there.

Discovery td5 auto. M & S warning lights come on and flash on dash. Loss of power therafter.

hi this problem is caused by a geatbox fault , something is causing the fault code to bring on your warning lights , in this mode the gearbox locks up and the tourqe converter takes up the drive , when you drive of it feels like you only have 3 gear , change the oil and filter in the box and make sure you have the correct level of oil in the box , very important , td5 auto 192k

I have a 1999 Olds Intrigue, headlight left on alarm is stuck

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the audible warnings. Refer to Body Control System Description in Body Control System for more information regarding the BCM.
The body control module (BCM) controls these reminders:
• Key in ignition reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the key has been left in the ignition cylinder. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 150 chimes per minute.
• Fasten seat belt reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver at the beginning of the driving cycle that the driver's seat belt is unfastened. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 50 chimes per minute.
• Fasten belts indicator control: A visual warning intended to remind the driver that the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
• Parking brake reminder: An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the parking brake has been left applied with the transaxle shifted out of PARK. The BCM sounds the chime for his reminder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Turn signal reminder:
An audible warning intended to remind the driver that the turn signal has been left on while the vehicle has traveled over 1.2 km (¾ mile). The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a variable rate (in unison with the turn lamps on) of 90 chimes per minute.
• Headlamps ON reminder: An audible waring intended to remind the driver that the headlamps have been left on. The BCM sounds the chime for this reminder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Last door closed locking confirmation: An audible warning intended to provide the driver feedback that the last door closed locking feature is active. The BCM sounds the chime for this remainder at a rate of 200 chimes per minute.
• Feature customization and diagnostics feedback: An audible feedback used when changing feature customization modes. Also used by service technicians during the BCM diagnostics. The BCM sounds the chime during the feature customization, and also during diagnostics. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) for additional information.
