Check engine light & power reduction light on intermittantly

During our last big snow my 2007 Ion started showing the two engine lights and I lost power. If I turn it off, then restart it the power reduction light goes out and it runs fine, even though the check engine light is still on. Also, both lights occasionally go out for a day or two. A diagnostic machine noted the problem as the throttle pedal sensor switch, but the connection is good and I can't detect moisture. If the problem is intermittant, I suspect maybe a problem with the ground connection? Or could it be the alternator ground? Any insight would help as I don't want to pay the $120 for a new sensor switch unless I can confirm it's faulty.

The right way to a fix is to have a technowizard hook up a lab scope an check the position sensor signals to the PCM/ECM . The position sensor is wearing out inside the Accelerator Pedal . It's not a connection or mositure or the alternator . It is more then likely
the APP sensors . These wear out regulaly ! Drive by Wire Function and Diagnostics by Wells

SOURCE: Misfire

One question, have you replaced the ECTS (Electronic Cooling Temperature Sensor)? These cause no end of different seemingly unrelated problems on Saturns. Peice is about ten bucks and is an easy install. Just search on youtube for a how-to video. Even if that's not the problem it is reccommended to replace this peice just the same as they ALL end up going bad at some point.

If that's not a fix, start pulling plugs. Check to see if they're correctly gapped and if they have any damage/corrosion. If you're running Platinum plugs, immediatly change to a copper plug as Platinums have no place in these motors. Most people have the best luck with NGK copper.

Check to make sure that your plug wires haven't been crossed. This sounds like a plug or wire issue most likely so it has to be in that family, if the plugs are good, wires good and not crossed, sensors are fine, then time to replace your coil packs. If you've replaced everything up to the coil packs then that is most likely the cause of your dillema.

Take the car back to your Mechanic and have the mechanic reset your system. Some may advise you to disconnect the battery, and that will reset your computer. This may cause significant problems with your car's computer, radio, alarm. Take the car to the mechanic.

SOURCE: reduced power light/check engine runs very rough

usually when it gets colder outside the car will misfire and run rough because the ignition module/coil pack goes bad and makes it misfire, youre gonna have to replace the coil and module,,its the black long piece that sits on top of the spark plugs,1 wire connector and 4 10mm bolts remove them and pull up hard to pop the plug boots off the spark plugs, then install the new parts and you should be ok

SOURCE: '99 Saturn SC1 with intermittant check engine light P0341

a p0341 code mean cam reference performance, really it means you have a secondary ignition problem,,,,like a bad ignition module
a bad crank sensor
a high resistance spark plugs,do not use bosch platinum plugs in these cars
high resistance spark plug wires,,,i work at the dealer and the first thing we do is replace the spark plugs and wires if that dont work we replace the crank sensor,if thatdont work we reaplce the ignition mondule, and by then your fixed and you started with the cheapest items first,,,i would try plugs and wires and a crank sensor,,,,wires $50 plugs $14 crank sensor $37

Transmission 2007 Ion automatic transmission. Where do i check the level?

If the check engine light is on instead of won't to check the transmission fluid , have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . More then likely TCC clutch solenoid problem . Take it an have it check .

My bmw has lost power and engine management light is on in my bmw 645ci

When the Engine Computer detects a problem, it sets a diagnostic fault code and turns the Check Engine light on to tell you. The place to start is by reading that code. Cycle the ignition switch three times within five seconds from "off" to "run" without cranking the engine, leave it in "run", then watch the code numbers show up in the odometer display. There's over a thousand potential fault codes but only those that could adversely affect emissions must turn the Check Engine light on. When the light is off the next time you start the engine, that means it's an intermittent problem and it has the second lowest level of severity. You still do not want to ignore it though because sometimes minor problems can become serious.

In my 2007 tahoe power reduction message comes on what could be the problem

Your Tahoe goes into "Power Reduction Mode" to keep you from continuing to operate the vehicle with an OBVIOUS problem and destroying high-dollar parts like catalytic converters, cylinder heads, etc.. Yeah, the old days of simply ignoring Check Engine lights are over.... The manufacturers have made it so the engine will go into reduced power mode and FORCE you into properly maintaining your vehicle.

(Not saying that you don't maintain your vehicle...Just pointing out that you can thank all of those people that continuously run around with warning lights SCREAMING all over their dash for the wonderful little "Reduced Power Mode" feature.)

As for what could be actually causing thie problem? Well, just let me say that the last time I counted, there were over 600 "generic" OBD fault codes available for most cars (80% of which will turn the Check Engine light on long before reduced power mode takes place), and several hundred more "vehicle specific" fault codes that have not yet made the generic code list.

So, to put it simply, you will have to scan your computer network and gather all the fault codes and perform fault code diagnostics to determine the actual cause of your problem.

Check engine light on 2007 saturn ion

Your best bet there, is to run in to one of the big autoparts stores (Autozone, Pep Boys etc) and get a free code scan done. If the code doesn't point you in direction of fix, get back to us with that code(s) and we will be happy to assist you further.
Much cheaper and faster this way.
