We went to take the alternator out of our pontiac grand am and the red (positive charge to battery) on the alternator cut clean off about eight inches down. Now I cant find the wire. Is there a harness or something that I need to look for? Does anyone have a wiring diagram to help me locate it?

1997 Pontiac Grand Am. Where is the alternator fuse on it please?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

There isn't one. The alternator is a generator of electricity, not a user or power.

Electrical problems on a 2002 Pontiac grand am

an alternator wont help if you battery is shot or very low charge, charging battery from just alt is not recommended.if you use a jump from a good 12volt source and it stays running more than likely it's your battery

2006 pontiac g6 Auto lights are on then suddenly switched off and dashboard lights went out also. Turn on manually and headlights and taillights all work, but no gauge lights, help.

i would check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and secure, then test the battery for proper voltage and amperage output, known as a load testand if that is allright, start the car and test the alternator to make sure it is charging the battery.you can do this yourself if you have a tester by putting the meter on 20 volts dc,placing the red teminal on the positive post of the battery and the black terminal on the negative post of the battery.you should have a reading of 13.5to 14.5 or higher depending on the output of the alternator which means the alternator is charging.if any of these tests fail replace the faulty part and your problem should be solved.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP....while i was driving it just went dead and wouldn't start back up. Could it just be the battery? Before it died it was cutting out.

Your alternator went out allowing the battery to die, taking away power from the spark plugs, Please get new alternator and replace battery this should fix your problem.

Charging system failure

Hello! The problem you are experiencing is most likely due to a fautly or malfunctioning alternator. You can take the car to any major auto parts store, and they can do a FREE charging system test which will tell you if your alternator is operating (and charging the battery) properly, as well as if your battery is accepting the incoming charge from the alternator.

Hope this helps and good luck!
