Honda Civic LX 1.6 liter engine Made in America Electric Windows Locktronic installed Power door locks They all work fine so far. The lights flicker or surge while the car is running. I've had someone replace the battery and both positive and negative cables. I disconnected my alarm. I recently had the coil go out and that was replaced. The module to the coil was not replaced. A year ago I replaced the altenator. I don't know if the car has fuseable links or even where to look. I have had a diagnostic on the car about 2 weeks ago and I had an evap code, which turned out to be the gas cap. Code cleared. My SRS light on the dash has been on for over a year and I haven't been able to service it due to finances. The car runs fine. No missing, or stalling, no loss of power. It doesn't lose dash lights or headlights they all work fine. they just flicker/surge My son in law did install a stereo about a year ago, and since then the lights to the panel that controls the air and heat don't light up anymore. And the cigarette lighter wires are missing. The stereo works fine charges through usb and blue tooth and other features etc work. It doesn't have any operating issues. Other than I can't get the audio for blue tooth phone to work. Oh and my compressor for my ac went out last summer and I had to have the belts cut to get rid of the noise. I have not had the opportunity to repair it yet. That's about all I can think of. I'm a single Mother and I don't know about cars. Any help is Greatly Appreciated. I am not going to sell it because sentimental reasons. It is my only car.
Hey Trenna.. well I'l try to be as simple as possible and take my time communicating with you until we can get a handle on it.. Normally this problem comes from the alternators rectifier circuit. Basically it controls the conversion from ac current to dc current. and the dipping lights suggest its dropping power.
now these lights get their power from the ACCESSORY system which is the same as what the cigarette and the factory radio gets its power from.. Follow so far ??
so now we have to look at 3 things..
The amount of power going to the system, (the alternator should always be pushing around 13.5 volts)
The kind of power AC/ DC.. (its always dc but if the rectifier or regulator is broken some ac will leak in)..
and for a short circuit in the wiring for the accessories.
can you get your son in law to double check his wiring and find the missing cigarette lighter wires, and also if he has a Volt meter to check the amount of current coming from the alternator to the battery while the car is idling ??
i know you said your not a car person so we will need some one to help out with all the testing work..
Btw the SRS light is the air bag click system located in the steering wheel. Its what triggers the airbags in case of an accident. Normally from constant turning these wires get broken and the clock mechanism needs to be replaced.
