Sluggish slow acceleration

When driving, acceleration is sluggish when accelerator is pressed down to pass and tachometer surges. Feels like something holding it back, no get up and go. It does speed up but not like it should.

Check engine light came on while driving, now when you accelerate it makes a loud hissing sound and is sluggish. Can I drive it this way for 200 miles to get it home or is there something serious wron

Is this a Turbo model? If so, it sounds like you have a blown Turbo or a leak somewhere in the turbo system. 200 miles is a long way to go with a bad part, and it's pretty risky. I'd get it checked out by a local mechanic before trying to drive that far.

Truck won't move in drive, when it does it drives slow and has a whining sound. Whines in reverse when you back up. Feels sluggish and doesn't have much acceleration. Also the RPMs fluctuate in cruise...

Try changing the automatic transmission fluid and the transmission filter. There are also bands on the transmission that can be adjusted. You will need to buy the service manual at your local auto parts store to get the exact specifications for adjusting the bands.

Sluggish acceleration, hard gear shift

There is a vaccum assist module on the transmission, which uses alot of vaccum and helps control your shifts, check that vaccum line at the intake manifold and the transmission to make sure it is connected, this line being off can cause you alot of problems,
The battery, check to make sure your cables are in good shape and connections are tight and clean, make sure you put the new belt on right.
If you have it on wrong you could be spinning the alternator backwards, then it would'nt charge.
