Opening the gas tank door

Access the trunk from inside the car by putting the back seat down if it goes down or remove it. There's a emergency release inside the trunk

if the flap is intact you can try spraying some wd-40 on its hinge. If its missing you need a filler neck for your fuel tank.

yes their is an emergency pull cable somewhere in the boot

remove door panel and check actuator for power and that actuator rod is connected and the plastic clip did not break or pop off

there should be a pull cable located in the trunk on the side

look for an emergency pull cable in the boot (trunk) it should have one

Grab the door and pull it open. There is no trick, have had a few Passats, no levers in any of them.

Yes, I'm sure the owner's manual shows how to do this. Usually one of the panels in the trunk. Take them off to check, but I would consult the manual first.

i had a similar problem on the front doors .after taking it to a garage for a quote £ 180 i read into it and there are micro swithches in the locks so with a gentle tap with the hand the door unlocks . hope this helps it saved me the money

If my memory serves me right, the solenoid which pulls the cable to open the gas cap door is in the trunk on the side wall. Just gain access to it and then operate the plunger by hand. If you have one of those net storage bins fitted then you may need to remove that first as it could be behind it.

If you want to diagnose the problem, you need a volt meter to trace if, and where the voltage is missing.
