Gas gauge in my 91 wrangler is not working - Wrangler Jeep Cars & Trucks

The clutch should go to the floor =) But if it's not disengaging the clutch disk, there's definitely a problem between the pedal and the clutch disk. I'm guessing you have a hydraulic clutch?

use a digital voltage meter on the battery to verify the 'spikes', Jeep Wrangler gauges are notorious for being erratic (I have a 98 TJ, how's your gas gauge working?)-

the printed circuit board gets weird due to water leaks that find their way to the back of the pod from the top of the roof seal, so it is not unusual for gauges to act strangly.

If that is not the case, it is time for a new alternator.

There might be a bad fuse for the gauges. I believe the fusebox is in or behind the glovebox. The rattling maybe a heatsheild underneath, or maybe a loose clamp?

depending on how fast, this happens, could be an air lock in cooling syste, or a bad head gasket, or head. does the gauge ever go too high? can you hear gurgling in the rad, and does it ever push out coolant?

Its more and likely the gage cluster its self. replacement should repair it.

No Im sorry there is not, does it stay on full or empty, If it was shorted it would say full if it say empty your system is open I would check my conectors for corrostion

Who ever thought of putting an electric fuel pump inside a tank of gas........

Check your other gauges for accuracy. They do that when a ground is loose.

Check the wiring from the fuel tank along the longitudinal frame for frays and shorts. Plugs are secured.

Under the hood, passenger side, check the fuel pump relay. Switch it with one of the others to test it.

Bring the vehicle to an auto parts store. Ask them to break out he code reader. Check for diag codes

Check 2 fuses. Instument lights / panel and also the brake light fuse. Sometimes the brake light fuse blows and you have no dash lights.

The fuel pump ground wire is loose. If you have a loose parking brake pedal or recently had it worked on, check the black and yellow wire that's on one of the screws that holds the Pk. brake assembly. It's hard to find, but it's up there. I guess it could be elsewhwere on the ground wire between the fuel pump and the grounding point by the Pk. brake.
