Mini cooper 2005 s convertible.I push the button and hear a noise cile a cable that may not be connectec or brocken so it does not engage and lower the top.But that's just my guess
Often times this problem ends up needing a front sunroof section of the conv top replaced. The cable that drives the hooks to unlatch is most likely broken and that is currently the only fix. EXPENSIVE. Sorry
Check in the trunk that the plastic shelf is down and lying flat. make sure the locking arms are down. there's a button on the left where the shelf sits that needs to be depressed to tell the car it's ok to put the top down. then roll all the windows all the way down, then all the way up. then try putting the top down again.
Your best option is to take it to the dealer. As this could turn into quite a hastle.

conv. top is in the down position and cannot be moved up to the winshield the power switch liteis not on and the wrench to put the topup manualy is not in the tool box
When I push the button to put down my top the top goes down with no problem, the button light stays green waiting for the 4 windows to go up, I hear the motor working but the windows dont go up and the light stays green. It gives me a locked symbol on my dashboard. when I drive with that warning it continues to beep, becasue its in a lock mode. All windows work fine and my top goes down with no problem. Can it be the computer being out of sync...
