Starting problem 2005 PT Cruiser with 77000 miles was doing fine until this last cold snap. First below zero day it started and ran just fine.....second day would not start. cranked slowly then clicking sound. Replaced battery and now cranks but will not start. Have tried warming up with a space heater, and it sounded lie it was beginning to want to start..

Rachel, I'd feel better about helping you if we had a trouble code to start with. If you know someone that has a hand held scanner that will check the codes and post the code here or on my website below I will be able to help you with more confidence we are headed in the direction to repair your vehicle.
I will tell you that the Cam Shaft Position Sensor and Crank Shaft Position Sensor is the most common problem I find with a no start on this vehicle. BUT, it could also be fuel relayed so I'd feel much better if I had a code to go by.
sounds like the crank position sensor. check continuity and 5volts reference at sensor. you can have it checked by someone with a Good scanner(SNAP-ON). If it happens to start up,drive the car till it wont start up again; unplug the crank position sensor and count to 5 then plug it back in. If it starts then its the crank sensor.(just a quick way to test it and get you home or to a shop)
Hi Isabel. I think you have a bad battery. The reason the lights can come on but the car still not start is that the lights take much less energy than the starter. I'd be very careful jump starting a modern vehicle as it's extremely easy (and expensive) to damage the car's computer. If your car still has its original battery, this would be the first thing I'd replace.
Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
