Fuel leaking out of fuel meter body plug assembly

I recently started smelling fuel from the engine compartment and found the leak coming from the fuel meter body through the plug going into the fuel meter assembly. I opened the cover to the wires going into the plug assembly revealing each wire designated to a hole and having a rubber plug that the wire went through. Each plug was brittle and broken. I have tried using gas resistant silicone to fill where the line plugs were. Still leaking. Do I need to replace the plug and wiring harness all together, or is there a way to stop the leaking another way.

Are you talking about the
Vortec Fuel Injector Spider or CSFI System

or just the in tank fuel pump and senders assembly 0 ring

its a worry that problem
wiring and fuel in the same place

could ask an auto electrician for the bits you need to fix this

if you go to a wrecker cut off the wires and connectors you need from a wreck to fix

all silicons are short terms fixes
and dissolve in fuel eventually

SOURCE: surging power lose

a maf sensor will cause this also, you can go to any auto parts store and buy the maf sensor spray. follow directions on can. make sure air filter is clean also. my car did the same thing and after I cleaned the maf sensor it has been fine. 3.1 engine, to check sensor, just unplug it and try it on hills or highway. the car will not run very good and may stall out, but if the car does not surge, the maf is the problem.

Where is the fuel regulator located? And how can I tell if it's bad

Some fuel regulators are located in the tank as part of the fuel pump assembly. If the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad, it can leak fuel in the engine, contaminating the engine oil.

Symptoms of a bad regulator is:
Poor gas mileage.
Smell of gas in the engine compartment.
Fuel is leaking.
Black smoke coming out of the exhaust (tail pipe).
Failed emissions test.
Check engine light is on.

My dodge ram 2005 1500 hemi smells like gas when I

I'm not sure you would smell a fuel leak from the tank while driving, the tank is located to the rear of the cab, under the bed on the driver's side, you may however have a leak in or near the engine compartment. If this is the case, yes a fire is possible. If you smell fuel when you come to a stop, it may be your fuel cannister, or vent lines are leaking which should trigger a check engine light.
While the engine is running, Check the fuel rails and schrader valves on both sides of the engine manifold for leaks. You can also turn the key to the "RUN" position (do not start the engine.) this will cycle the fuel pump to run for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system, and you can then check for a fuel leak.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Engine 2.2 hard to start in am or pm and strong smell of gas after it starts.

It sounds like a leaking fuel injector(s) dumping fuel into a stopped engine. OR it could be a leaking fuel line.. It the gas smell in the engine compartment or out the exhaust? Engine compartment means leaking fuel line.

2007 kia rio losing power when going up hills

Random misfires could be gas related- low fuel pressure, vacuum leaks or air leaks upsetting the air/fuel mixture ratio, clogged air filter or fuel filter. Could be ignition related- worn spark plugs, possibly. Or could be an internal mechanical problem-possible valve train malfunction.
Start with a fuel pressure test. check vacuum hoses for leaks, check intake manifold and throttle body assembly for leaks. If you have an exhaust leak at or near the engine, can cause misfires. Air going into the engine is metered by the mass air flow sensor in the big air boot on the throttle body. If extra air gets into the engine through a vacuum leak or a loose hose, the engine computer won't know it, so the air/fuel mixture will be too lean, resulting in misfiring. Several things to check-good luck.

Smell fuel leftside of engine

spray carb cleaner on the motor as it is running. Fuel leak will be more noticeable and engine will try to die when spraying. May be a bad throttlebody gasket at the base and it's not letting you see it.

Starting my 1998 4 runner-4 cylinder, smell of fuel from engine compartment and noise from engine compartment, no lights on dashboard

Check all of your fuel lines that go to the fuel rail for leaks or cracked hoses.Be sure that the pressure regulator and pulsation damper isn't leaking. Also be sure none of the throttle body components aren't leaking. As far as the sound without knowing what the sound is like I don't want to mislead you only because sound travels it would be hard to pinpoint the sound without being there to hear it.Also inspect the injectors for any leakage.

The plenum shouldn't be damp with gas. Is it a throttle body fuel injection system?

Could be a leaky injector.

Strong fuel smell from AC

If you're experiencing a strong fuel smell, there's most likely a leak in the engine compartment. The AC will cool incoming air unless the "recirculate" button is pressed. The incoming air is what has the fuel smell, indicating a leak in the engine compartment. CAUTION: leaking fuel in the engine compartment is extremely dangerous and can lead to a fire. Please have the car diagnosed by a professional immediately.
