I have an ongoing problem with air in the fuel line of my Kubistar. It doesn't happen all the time but enough to really annoy me. If i use the prime pump under the bonnet before starting up no problem, if I don't then the chances are I'm going to have an under power van with a lot of black smoke and the only remedy I can find is to stop and use the priming pump. The van runs great after this but the problem will re occur if I switch the engine off for 15mins or so. Any clues to a remedy would be a great help.
I am not an expert on this one but sounds like a faulty non return / one way valve?
Diesel engine need air sound like restricted air filter.restricted fuel filter or fuel line.try change air filter see what happens.

Its normal for the pump to run for three seconds then shut off if the car engine is off. . This indicates that the fuel pump turned on and the pressure did reach specifications. If the pump did not reach pressure the pump would continue to run, You need to check for proper pressure with a gauge. If tthe pressure is ok then you have another issue like an ignition module or crank sensor if applicable. You may have to drive the car with the fuel gauge hooked up to see if you still have pressure when it dies.. I know you said you replaced the pump already but do you have the same issues as before you replaced it. This would indicate which direction you need to go now. If the same then its prabably not the pump.

You say you replaced the fuel pump relay switch? The fuel pump relay is located in the passenger compartment on the right side under the dash. Little black box with a 6 pin plug. Replace that and your power to the pump should be restored . Had this happen on mine just last week. The relay actually monitors the alternator, key switch and a couple of fuses and will remove power from the pump if there is a fault. AutoZone stock number is 20550, costs about $50.

Was looking at posts and other sites. I take it that some relays are even under seats. Anyway, Apparently the ECU relay and the ECC relay are linked. When properly operating the ECC brain sends a signal to the ECC relay and the ground wire is tan/green. The brain can be throwing the signal and the relay terminals are not receiving the signals, so the relays cannot switch.
Although you have replaced some relays, you need to check your plugins for these 2 relays.

Had a problem like this before and it was the computer..But you could faintly smell something like burnt wires..The computer should be down by the kick panel on the driverside..See if you smell anything on that side
