Can lifters be replaced

Oh yea, lifters can be replaced , best if you replace cam an lifters together ! Loud knocking is not usually associated with lifters , they usually make a ticking noise ! Knocking noise is most usually in the bottom of the motor , main or rod bearings . most of the time rod bearings !

Loud ticking noise coming from motor

This is probably tappet noise from the top end of the engine. However you should have it looked at quickly as these engines had a severe problem with oil sludging, even when recommended services were done.
This caused all sorts of problems, so see if you can get it fixed before the engine develops something terminal.

I took the car for repair and they fixed my oil pan valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket. they put the knock sensor wire direct to the knock sensor since they didnt have a connector. i drove off and...

the knock sensor changes the timing of the motor when it senses knock ,it sounds like the wire may have come off ,it sounds as if when you press the gas the timing should advance and it sounds as if its not advancing thats why you are hearing a clattering noise on accelerating.if you keep driving it like that you can do engine damage

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. I ran my car with no oil and now I'm hearing a loud ticking/knocking noise coming from under my valve cover. I added 2 bottles of oil after finding out that I didnt have any...

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic
(expect cost of more than US$ 2.000)
or get another (used) engine at a scrapyard 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-0.jpg 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-2.jpg

A loud ticking noise?

No I would not chase to the pistons, these vehicle were very comon in creating HLA noise hydraulic lash adjusting valves, meaning the valves pump up with oil as the oil gets thinner they dont pump up as fast and create a very loud ticking noise, I would not express a great concern over simplicity, dodge was famous for this, they really were.

My 97 excel has a rather loud ticking noise coming from the engine does anyone know what it is and how to fix it?

Check the oil! A ticking noise is most commonly a sign that there's a lack of oil running through the motor. Start the car and listen for general vicinity of the ticking noise. If the oil is fine and the noise is coming from the engine, there are oil additives that will quiet the noise. Ticking is also a sign of an old motor (guessing you have about 150K on this car) I hope this helps clarify your problem and wish you well with your car. All the best!
