No water from screen washer Ford Focus C-Max TDCi 54 reg

Hi, My front and back screen washers have just stopped working, the water reservoir is full and the pump seems to be working okay but no water comes out of the front and back washer jets, How do you get to the water reservoir inside the engine compartment to check if the pump filter is blocked, l have looked inside where you fill the reservoir up and there is a black cover with 4 screws in it and a bolt holding the neck of the filler pipe, What is the best way to remove the pump from the reservoir. Can anybody help me. Thanks.

The pump is located behind the front bumper (fender). You can gain access to it by removing the front part of the inner wheel arch.

not off the top of my head, however theres not too many problems with those cars. EGR valves stick now and again apart from that, i go to more with petrol in the diesel. If you have any problems, just post it and i'll give you a hand.

Sounds like you have a failed one way valve it's built inline with the washer pipe. It stops water from flowing back so it doesn't take ages for the washers to work. There is two of these behind the drivers wheel arch liner and one on the osr of vehicle trace the pipe bk to fine the valve. Remove valve and fit a piece of pipe on it's place job done!

Washer wiper not working, possibly used when

the fuse is the same as for the wipers and push on washer switch and see if you can hear washer pump run, otherwise try this (unless the motor pump has been dry run too long and ruined pump assy) and can't pump any longer go to a garage that has compressed air and at the wiper nozzles first gently blow air into each nozzle, then go to reservoir and remove supply hose to wiper nozzles and blow air gently and see if there's an obstruction in the line, you can use say 30 lbs max, reason being if any hoses where you cant get to them they can blow off fittings, also take air hose and on top of reservoir blow into hole on top of reservoir to push product thru lines and help pump (same as removing hose) on reservoir, I bet its unprimed itself or blocked with dirt, try this first

Windscreen washers

Fords have a common problem with their washer pumps. for the last 12 years ford have fitted a plastic mesh over the inlet to the washer pump, this blocks up with the build up of crystalized washer fluid. fords official protocol says to use a small sharp object the size of a pencil to peirce the mesh and allow the flow of water. Also most washer bottles can be accessed via the front wheel arch. simple undo the fixings and pull the innier plastic wheelarch out the way and pull the pump out of the bottle. they are never fixed in just wedged in.

My screen washer isn't working properly

Hi Stuart,

The motor may be on its way out, but there is something you can do before you get a new one.

Disconnect the hose leading from the washer reservoir to the "jets" on the hood, or wipers, where ever they are located.

See if you can blow through the hose, if not, there is an obstruction. If you can, I don't know what to tell you.

Best of luck

Frozen water in windscreen washer reservoir in t reg ford

Remove the hose from bottom of tank, steal your wifes hair blow dryer and melt the ice that way. If you can remove the tank easily place it in a sink full of hot water at that will melt it. They make special additives for windshield washers, but regular rubbing alchohol will work. No matter what you use rub some of it on a small area of your car to make sure it will not damage the paint. Hope this helps
