SOURCE: broken ignition barrel ford laser 1989 model

Hi,

this is the procedure to remove the ignition barrel:

Remove the steering column surround and you should see a black round thing on the left hand side, this is the ignition switch. Remove this and you will see there is one screw holding the ignition barrel on, remove and you then need to insert your key and turn it to the ACC position. you should now be able to withdraw the barrel using the key but take care not to snap the key off in the barrel.

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution as fixya.

Goodluck..

SOURCE: f-150 ford pickup ignition switch -

Let's hope with a Supercab you have a tilt steering wheel. If so, just unhook the negative battery cable, line your wheels up straight, leave it in park, and turn the key on. On the underside of the housing the key and lock cylinder is in, above the hazard switch, is a very small hole with a locking pin inside. Using a small punch, or whatever works for you, simply push the pin in as you pull the lock cylinder out, sort of twisting and rotating the cylinder as you pull. A non-tilting column is a little harder, but it's not difficult, just take your time and think about what you're doing. First you need to remove the steering wheel, so make sure you mark the wheel and column in a couple places so it's easy to line up later. On the back side of the wheel are two screws that hold the front padding with the horn in it. Remove it, being careful of the wires, and disconnect. With cruise control, when you disconnect the wiring in there, you need to squeeze the ground wire terminal clip carefully but firmly (it's sort of like a "J" clip), and pull the wire out of the hole in the wheel. DON'T just pull it out, squeeze, it's spring loaded. Then remove the switch for the horn and the nut holding the wheel on. Use a puller on the steering wheel, but not one they call a "knock off", because it's pretty easy to screw things up if you go hammerin' on the wheel or the column shaft. Take your time. Then you'll find the little hole with the retaining pin near the base of the lock cylinder inside the column, remove it the same way. Remember, in park with key on. Hope this helps you out. If you happen to be referring to the actual "ignition switch", located inside the steering column (which most people don't even know actually exists), or you don't have the key and that's why you're doing this, you'll have to let me know, and I'll try to walk you through those procedures at a later date.

Im still looking for a answer to my search as to why i cant shut engine off with key and for those whom think that i am unable to stall motor i can do that but all electrical stays live

What make , model an year vehicle ? Ignition switch problem , maybe .Does the key turn all the way to the off position ? Viewing a wiring diagram to see what powers the vehicle up > On some vehicle makes the ignition switch is just a low voltage input to a BCM - body control module . The BCM energizes relays that power up the vehicle ,could be stuck relay contacts . But without knowing year , make , model an engine size , hard to say what is wrong . Do you know how to read an using a wiring diagram ,in conjunction with a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter to test automotive electrical circuit's ?

Toyota 2.4d 1987 can not stop the engine off via the key it requires a gear so that It can stop.what can be the problem??

there is a power supply to the coil after the ignition switch
could be in the ignition switch itself or in an accessory that has been fitted incorrectly
if the ignition system has a relay that is controlled by the ignition switch , replace it as the contacts are permanently closed and allowing power to the ignition system

Break and battery light stays on all the time

sold all over earth, what country> we cant guess this....
don't break the brakes....!!!
my guess, you meant the
brake lamps are on keys in pocket. and the battery lamp is dash(charge) glows, keys in pocket. right?
and battery cable kills all this illegal states above. sure.

86 nissan PU.
720 PU>? Datsun>?
or D21 Nissan ( 1986 Dat-SUNS became NISSANS. in USA)
Model years 1986.5 (second half) and later were called Nissan Hardbody Trucks, chassis code D21.

D21 are called HARD BODY trucks. mid year changes.
so???? which is yours.

as you might not ,know , the models are wired diffrent by different exact models and country.
long ago , i had the 86 with the VG30 V6...

so i will roll the dice and answer for
D21
ok?

things off stay on, 101
bad wiring, hacked in wiring, radios, alarms and other things.
all can cause this..... its old and is common on old cars.
but if wiring is not hacked, (id see that in 10seconds in person)
no hacks.
gas engine car not diesel.
USA 86 body
brakes
Im looking now at the schematic and this car has a hot at all times
brake lamp switch. (foot pedal switch)
SO only a bad switch can cause this.... period
now the dash charge (battery ) light stuck on.

my online source ,has the alternator system missing.
so can not comment.
the lamp gets its power from the key switch
if the key switch fails , all warning lanps glow not just the
charge.(battery)
so its not that
my best guess is wiring errors, that put power the the cluster
key off. id bet that is it .

wiring errors to the ignition output is side, key switched power is failing.

Need to change on ignation switch

look directly under the switch where the key goes in. there should be a small hole. Insert the key into the ignition then find a pin or a small tool that will fit into the hole. press it inward and this will release the lock that holds the keyswitch in.

1987 toyota pickup lost all electrical except headlights

What works? Just headlights? Does anything electrical work that does not need the ignition switch to be in the on position? Possibly four way flashers, brake lights, horn, interior light, dash lights in instrument panel as well as headlights should all work without the key in the ignition and in the acc or on position. If this is what you have, then I would say you need to replace the ignition switch.
Hope this helps.

1987 Toyota PU

begin with routing checks with a multimeter or 12 volts bulb tester determin if you got voltage on 12 volt side of the coil secondly check the fuel pump to see if ifs working by losening the line on the carburetor or injector what ever you carry ensure that your points is set and gapped properly make certain that all ignition lights shows up when ignition is switch on that would help you figure which fuse is burn if there's any check for broken wires on battery terminals sometimes you might have to tug on it a bit to be certain.
try this for now
