3 times ..turn the key > off on off on off on .> then count the flashes of the light , flash flash pause flash flash , = 22 , pause , i think when you see 5 flashes pause 5 flashes , that means end of list . there might be multiple codes , have a note pad , you have to do it twice to be sure of the code(s) .

How do you check engine code on a 2007 Buick Rainier without a scan tool

To check the engine codes on a 2007 Buick Rainier without a scan tool, you can retrieve them using the following steps:

Turn the ignition to "On" (not start) position
Locate the "Data Link Connector" (DLC), usually found near the driver's side kick panel or under the steering column.
Connect a jumper wire to the DLC terminals A and B (consult the vehicle's manual for the correct terminals)
Turn the ignition to "Off" position
Turn the ignition to "On" position, but do not start the engine.
The check engine light will begin to flash, with the number of flashes indicating the first digit of the code. For example, if the light flashes three times, pauses, then flashes four more times, the code is 34.
Repeat the flashing sequence two more times to retrieve the second and third digit of the code.
Write down the code and refer to a manual or online resource to interpret the code and diagnose the issue.
Note: This method may not be applicable for all vehicles and some vehicles may have different methods for retrieving the codes. Always consult your vehicle's manual for the correct procedure.

Limp mode

see this commentary and proceed.with RUN the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it. God bless you
When you turn the ignition ON before starting the car, the "Check engine" light is supposed to come on indicating that the engine computer (also could be called ECM, PCM, or ECU) is powered on. If the "Check engine" light does not come with the ignition ON, it's possible that there is no power coming to the engine computer (e.g., due to a broken wire, faulty main relay, burnt fuse, etc.) or that there is a problem with the engine computer itself.

Chevy cavalier 1994 idles low and check engine lights go on

You need someone with a scan tool or someone who knows how to retrieve the codes without a On 1983-94 models, the ALDL connector or Data Link Connector (DLC), located under the dash, and sometimes covered with a plastic cover labeled DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR, can be activated by grounding test terminal B . The terminal is most easily grounded by connecting it to terminal A (internal ECM ground), the terminal to the right of terminal B on the top row of the ALDL connector. Once terminals A and B have been connected, the ignition switch must be moved to the ON position with the engine not running.
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2. The Service Engine Soon or Check Engine light should be flashing. If it isn't, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire. Turn the ignition ON and confirm that light is now on. If it is not, replace the bulb and try again. If the bulb still will not light, or if it does not flash with the test terminal grounded, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician. If the light is OK, proceed as follows.
  3. The code(s) stored in memory may be read either through counting the flashes of the dashboard warning lamp or through the use of a hand-held scan tool. If using the scan tool, connect it correctly to the ALDL.
  4. After the terminals are connected, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but DO NOT start the engine. The dash warning lamp should begin to flash Code 12. The code will display as one flash, a pause and two flashes. Code 12 is not a fault code. It is used as a system acknowledgment or handshake code; its presence indicates that the ECM can communicate as requested. Code 12 is used to begin every diagnostic sequence. Some vehicles also use Code 12 after all diagnostic codes have been sent.
  5. After Code 12 has been transmitted 3 times, the fault codes, if any, will each be transmitted 3 times. The codes are stored and transmitted in numeric order from lowest to highest.

The order of codes in the memory does not indicate the order of occurrence.
  1. If there are no codes stored, but a driveability or emissions problem is evident, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician.
  2. If one or more codes are stored, record them. Refer to the applicable Diagnostic Code chart in this section.
  3. Switch the ignition OFF when finished with code retrieval or scan tool readings.
  4. scanner.

D4 light on no matter what gear i'm in. 95 Honda Accord LX 4-cylinder. Already replaced solinoid, speedometer, fan,

The D4 light is coming on to tell you that there is one or more fault codes set in your transmission control module. The only way to retrieve codes on the 1995 models is to read "Flash Codes" output by the D4 light. (See instructions below)

RETRIEVING FLASH CODES USING THE D4 LIGHT
If fault codes are present, the D4 light will "blink" when the ignition is turned to the RUN position and will remain on at all times when the engine is running.
To retrieve the flash codes, turn the ignition switch off.
Install a jumper wire between the service check connector terminals.
The service check connector is a gray, 2-pin connector located on the PCM/TCM cover under the passenger side of the instrument panel. (See picture below)

CAUTION: DO NOT use the 3-pin located next to the service check connector.

Installing the jumper will place the PCM/TCM in diagnostic test mode.
Turn the ignition to the RUN position. Codes will be output by blinking the D4 light.
Note the number of blinks from the D4 light. A short blink indicates a single digit flash code. A long blink equals 10 short blinks. For instance one short blink indicates code 1. One long blink and four short blinks indicates code 14. If there is more than one fault code, they will be output one at a time from the lowest numbered code to the highest numbered code. It is recommended that you read the code or codes several times to make sure that you are reading it correctly.

Once you have retrieved the fault code(s) re-post your question and include the information for what codes you have and someone can then help you locate the cause of the problem.

The "service engine soon" light came on my 1997 dodge neon shortly after I put in some oil. I bought the car second hand so I am not sure what oil was used previously. I am wondering if anyone knows why it...

The Service Engine Soon Light means that your ECM (Computer) in your car has stored a Trouble Code for a Sensor or Component that needs attention or replacement. You will need a OBD II scanner to retrieve the code. Once you have the Trouble Code, a Mechanic or you can now diagnose the problem, fix the problem or replace the part. You can go to AutoZone and they can retrive the code for you at no charge.

How to reset the check engine light on a 1999 toyota avalon xls

You need to have a code reader/scan tool hooked up to retrieve the code/s that triggered the engine light. You can have this done at most auto parts stores for free. Try Auto zone, Checkers, Napa, or Murray's. The engine light will eventually go out if the computer does not receive any codes after many cycles turning the ignition on and off. It will not go out if there are codes still present. After you've retrieve the code/s bring them back here and we will have a better understanding of what caused them.

Service engine soon light on a 1996 caravan sport

The codes can be retrieved by turning your ignition switch on and off three time quickly and watch your service engine light. It will flash once pause then flash twice then it will begin to give any fault codes that have been stored. It will flash once or twice then pause then flash in concession again then pause and start another code if any. When you have retrieved all the codes available it will flash 5 times pause then flash 5 times which means it has finished. There are several sites on the net that will explain what each code stands for and which circuit needs your attention.
