1991 Suzuki Swift GTi very low idle and stalling

Car will stall instantly when started cold unless accelerator is down keeping revs up. After 5 minutes of driving the revs will drop to 200-300rpm when gearing down to stop and shudder badly but 9/10 times wont stall but do have to ride the clutch or keep in neutral and keep accelerator on holding at 1000rpm to stop shuddering. have adjusted throttle cable as much as possible but no difference made.

I know absolutely nothing about cars Alex...What is an accelerator pot? Oh and I'm not sure if this would cause an issue...it was running perfect, I used a whole 250ml bottle of injector cleaner in fuel take and it has had all issues I described since that moment.

Suzuki swift used to tick over at 800 revs, now ticking over between 600 and 800 revs, engine shudders a bit

which engine, what year.?
egr struck open , partially is #1 cause of low idle
and never getting a tuneup.

the ECU, does all it can to hold 800, hot, all day,no matter what.
but
will fail if:
1: not tuned up, called misfire. (shudders is misfire)
2: too lean (low fuel pressure.)
3: leaking injectors, more misfire. (or clogged)
4: egr stuck open a tad, or stalls if open fully.
5: ISC stuck closed.

I have suzuki swift with a problem of switching off every 1.5km.does it have crankshaft sensor and where is it positioned.check engine light is on

old post......

if the CEL glows, running. that meas there are DTC errors stored
on this very old car its a flash code covered in the FSM
or alldata.com
but switching off, you meant stalls. engine stalls, lights switch off.
the ECU on your car does magic things to prevent all stall.s
so if it does stall that means, its serious and when it does stall
the CEL COMES BACK on, at the stall that is NORMAL.
key on, not running , the CEL lamp is ECU self test passing.
89 swift.
what country?
which engine, of the 6 offered world wide.?
1.3L gas or diesel.?
is it the GTI? the first suzuki to have EFI?
its G13B high performance twin cam engine.??????
New Zealand
???
sold there till 1994
many other countries this name ended in 1988
as you can see below there were two very different 1.3 engine.
I think yours is the G13A, early.

1.0 L G10 (LP2) I3
1.0 L G10T (LS3) turbo I3
1.3 L G13A/BA (L72) 8V I4
1.3 L G13B/G13K 16V DOHC I4
1.5 L G15A 16V I4
1.6 L G16 16V I4

now the late answser
the #1 all time cause for old suzuki's to stall
is the EGR main valve stuck open
#2, idle is way below 800 rpm hot.
#3 never had a tune up, in last decade.
#4 fuel starvation.
there is test for each. ask

1991 pontiac 6000 6 cyl stalls on acceleration This situation varies, sometimes it stall when your just barely starting to accelerate and other time I can accelerate a lot more with no problem unless I...

Sounds like the engine is starving for fuel - plugged fuel filter, failing fuel pump, malfunctioning fuel regulator, etc. Have the fuel pressure checked.

I have 2 x swift GTi's, with high rev problems!!

Well, depending on your market of course, I'd still be fairly sure you do have a choke! It is located on the rear of the intake air plenumn chamber and has 2 small coolant hoses that come up from underneath - one comes from the thermostat housing area, and the other goes to the water pump area. Disconnect these and make sure you can blow easily through the choke unit. Like most Suzuki thermo-wax choke elements, they need hot water to contract, and in so doing, reduce the amount of extra air let into the engine. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have adjusted the throttle stopper screw (it may have had a tamper-proof cover on it). If you have, the throttle plate-to-barrel clearance should be set back to as close as what your other car is by measuring the clearance with feeler gages. Let me know how you get on. I've got a 1991 version of the same and I'm in Australia.

Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 litre petrol. Starts from cold (stood overnight). Twelve minute drive to work - slowing down at lights etc engine stalls constantly. No problem re-starting. Pull into a layby...

Same problem for me. The car would idle at about 2500 when started from cold and about 3 miles on would not idle at all, resulting in the revs dropping off when changing gear or stopping. Also rather jerky in top gear unless thrashed - numerous trips to the garage for air idle valve, injectors etc. but still a problem! Have just found out that GVs are a bit prone to carbon build up in the throttle body - mine was almost blocked - it now feels like a different car.

1999 suzuki swift stalling problem

could be a sticking idle air control valve... a little cylinder on the side of your throttle body.. it helps control your idling air fuel ratio.. this goes bad could cause your problems... also easy for you to replace... normally 2 small bolts and a harness.. usually run about 35-85 dollars.. check price and if it's about 35 or so.. i'd go ahead and change it anyways.. 9 years it's probly due.. :D
