Check to see that the sensor wires that sense axle rotation are connected. Some are near the caliphers abd read the rotor rotation and in my car with rear drum brakes it is in the axle housing next to the axle bearing. Check that the sensor is compatable for the new application

How to change a rear wheel bearing on a 2004 ford taurus???

How to Replace Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly on a 2nd generation Taurus

The following procedure is for a Ford Taurus (VIN S), with rear drum brakes and ABS.

1. Loosen wheel lug nuts, raise rear of vehicle, and support securely on jack stands. Block front wheels and remove rear wheels.

2. Remove brake drum (parking brake must be off).

3. Remove and clean ABS Sensor (Torx E8) with a spritzled rag.

4. Remove grease cap from hub.

5. Remove and discard hub retaining nut (36 mm). This is a compound nut, comprised of several nuts inside a metal cage. Use a 36 mm axle nut socket (e.g., OEM 25206). Many auto parts stores will lend you this socket. A 1/2-inch drive air impact wrench or breaker bar is necessary to remove the nut.

6. Remove wheel bearing/hub assembly from spindle. It easily comes off by hand.

7. Install new Timken Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly, for Drum Brakes and ABS (Part No. 512162). Tighten new axle spindle nut (Dorman 05114) 221 lb.-ft., replace grease cap, and button everything up.

I have a 1990 chevy 1500 when I drive the left rear wheel engage. And when it does that I have to press the brake pedal to disengage. I change wheel cyclinders, brake lines and all, but it still do the same...

check the rear brake adjustment and clean out all the brake dust.this can happen if the brakes are not adjusted properly as the misadjusted side will pull the brake shoes into the drum and act like the brake is on.if it was an abs problem or sympton the abs light should have come on to indicate a problem depending at what speed it happens.

I need to know how to remove a rear axel on 2007 dodge ram

its pretty simple

Remove the drive shaft

remove the tires

remove the calipers and rotors if rear disk and then remove the ebrake shoes/cables.

If rear drums remove the drums. remove the shoes and the e brake cable. remove the backing plate bolts. remove backing plate from axle and support with a piece of wire from the frame being careful not to distort the brake line.

remove the bolt that holds the breather an brake junction to the axle.

remove the break line from the tabs (may not have them).

remove the shocks from the axle.

remove the u-bolts from the axle.

pull the axle out.

Trying but unable to take the rear drums off 2006 chevrolet silverado 2wd 1500 ext cab

According to AutoZone, if you have the full floating axles they have to come off to get the drum off. The semi-floating axles are easier--if you have those you just need to back off the adjuster as I explained. Reach a thin screwdriver into the hole in the back above the axle. It might have a cap over it or a "punch out." You need to turn the star (slightly visible in attached pic) in I think the up direction several turns to get past the lip in the drum. It will resist turning as it ratchets in the opposite direction. You should be able to tell if you're going the right direction as the drum should get looser.

Removal & Installation

Full Floating Axles
To remove the drums from full floating rear axles, the axle shaft will have to be removed. Full-floating rear axles can be identified by a bearing housing that protrudes through the center of the wheel.
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

Wheel Axle shaft Retaining ring, key and adjusting nut Hub and drum

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

Hub and drum to the tube Adjusting nut Key and retaining ring Axle shaft and wheel

Semi-Floating Axles
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub and remove the wheel.
  3. Mark the relationship of the drum to the hub and pull the drum from the brake assembly. If the brake drums have been scored from worn linings, the brake adjuster must be backed off so the brake shoes will retract from the drum. The adjuster can be backed off by inserting a brake adjusting tool through the access hole provided. In some cases the access hole is provided in the brake drum. A metal cover plate is over the hole. This may be removed by using a hammer and chisel.

To install:
  1. Align the mark on the drum to mark on hub and install drum
  2. Align the mark on the wheel to mark on drum and install wheel
  3. Adjust brake lining as needed. Pump brakes

Have hard time taking off the brake drum to replace rear brakes on 2006 chevy silverado what neeeds to done what wrenches to use?

No special tools.
Spray some WD-40 or similar penetrating fluid on the centre of the drum where the end of the axle comes through, and around the wheel studs as rust will cause binding on these points.
Some models have a small (phillips head) retaining screw to keep the drum in place, make sure you remove it if there is one.
Release the parking brake.
Slack off the parking brake cable. Following the cable from the inside of the drum will lead you to the adjusting nuts, usually at the centre of the vehicle.
Tap on the outer edge of the drum with a hammer while turning it. On worn drums a ridge has been carved into the edge of the drum where the shoes press against it, causing the shoe to get stuck on this ridge and the drum wont come off. To make sure there is no residual pressure in the lines keeping the shoes expanded, open one of the bleed nipples on the drum.If none of this works get a bigger hammer. The drum should just slide off else it is stuck on the shoes or corroded onto the axle.

Looks like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. I would pull the rear wheels off, and the brake drums. Look for grease leaking inside the drums, at the center. If so, your rear axle seals are bad...common issue.

Removing rear break drum from a 2006 chevy Equinox

You need to de-adjust your rear brakes and/or slacken off the park brake cable to remove the drum as the chances are the drum has a wear lip that the shoes are getting hung up on. ( first make sure there isn't a little retaining screw holding the drum on !..visible with the wheel removed)
