  • candb7716 Jan 24, 2009

Still no power to fuel pump after changing relays. Fuel pump looks new don't know what to try next. Tried tracing wires but can't keep track of all of them because of the wire looms. Where does the power start at maybe I could start from there. Thanks for all your help!

Check the inertia switch and reset it. It is usually located on the passenger side under kick plate, under glovebox area, under the carpeting also.

There is a Fuel Pump relay. Not sure if Ford has a Relay Box under the Hood though. There are also Fuses that Control some items of the Fuel System. Try the Relays first and see what you have.

The Best and Easiest way is to Locate a Relay that you Know is OK, Like those things are Working and swap it Around. What Usually do though is go and get a Couple of Extra Relays and keep them in my Shop. You can take them out one at a Time that way and just use the New ones until you find the Bad ones. They just cost a Couple of Bucks each.

They do get a Little warm. This is a Trial and Error Process so, Give it a Shot and let me know what you get so if we need to we can keep going.

  • Anonymous Jan 24, 2009

No Problem! The Wires are Very Hard to trace I know. Have you tried to find a Haynes or Chilton Repair book for your Truck? They give exploded views of a lot of these things and could help you a lot with this.

  • Anonymous Jan 25, 2009

There should not be Much Difference in the Models. Try it and see how much is not Relavent to your Truck.

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2009

Did the Chilton Book not help in Locating the Route of these Wires?

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2009

It is not Easy Either Way to Trace these Wires But, The Diagrams should show you where they Stop and Start. The only thing that I can tell you is to Try and Find where they Lead to By the Diagram Again and See if there is not a Short Between them. It's REALLY Hard to do when I am not there to see them.

Check for 12 volts power at the fuel pump harness. If no power is going to the pump, check the fuel pump relay. Also, check the fuel pump inertia switch. Ford usually has it on either inside left or right rear trunk fenders.

1987 Ford Ranger just stopped. Think it is a fuel problem. What should I check it has electronic fuel injection?

Check if you have pressure in the fuel system that you can check the pressure check port, or disconnect the return hose that is leaving the pressure regulator if you have gasoline in these parts is no problem of fuel pump . Also you have to check if power is being supplied to the terminal connecting wing fuel pump because it could be electrical problem and check the fuse and relay fuel pump. Thanks and good luck
