Remove the fill plug before you do anything. If you can not remove the fill plug there is no reason to remove the drain plug since you will not be able to fill the transmission once the fluid is drained out.

Once the fill plug is out, remove the drain plug. Let oil drain into a drain pain. Reinstall the drain plug. Fill the transmission with the appropriate fluid until the fluid starts to drain from the fill hole. Reinstall the fill plug. Your good to go.

I can't find timing mark on cam sprocket

For the 1997 Ford Ranger: Unspecified Engine Size:
Click on the following: direct, free Link.
It shows the Timing Marks for the Camshaft Sprocket and Oil Pump Sprocket.
The other Timing Marks should be on the Inner Cover. If NO Mark can be found: NOTE the Shaft Key Position in relation to where the Marks should be.

Only has 54000 miles and trasnmission getting bad vibbration

Start by replacing the gearbox oil. Then use some additives. Finally , if nothing works, you will have to get it repaired, the clutches are probably worn out.
