Hi from uk the rear brake calipers are auto adjust and so to reset the pistons back into calipers you need to rewind clockwise the piston whilst pushing piston back there is a tool for this purpose which does job in minutes however!! you can improvise if you have an old socket and hacksaw ? you can look at piston and see there are two slots on it? if you cut away an old socket so left with prongs to fit these slots then fit t bar and short extension to socket then you can push and turn piston back make sure slots are in line as to able fitting of new pads one has notch on rear face to insert in piston slot this also works for other models with rear calipers ? cheaper than the tool at £40 to £60 inthe uk dependant on makers hope this helps/inspires you ?

I removed the rotor and brake pads. but when going to change the pads I can not get the piston to go back far enough to put the new ones in. How do you get the piston to push back in order to put the brake...

You will have to use a c-clamp or brake piston compressing tool to get that piston back in, while you have the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir cap off.

Step by step instructions on how to replace front break pads on a 2003 VW Passat

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also.
But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

How do i release the brake caliper pistons to be able to fit new brake pads on a renault trafic 08 van. thank you

Renault trafic brake calipers on the front can be pushed in with a G-clamp, but rear calipers need to be wound in, if you look at the piston it has notches for a winding tool!

How to replace break pads for a honda accord

unbolt the bottom caliper bolt that holds the caliper to the bracket. Then pivot the caliper upward. You should now be able to take the old pads out of the bracket and slide the new ones in their place. Push the caliper piston back in with a c-clamp or big set of channel locks in order to be able to slide it back over the pads and bolt it up.

Compressing the rear disc brake caliper on 2008 grand caravan

The rear calipers on these models require a special tool that compresses and turns the piston in at the same time -- most parts stores carry this tool.

It is called a caliper piston press -- and it installs where the pads would go and acts like a c-clamp,when turning handle it will turn the caliper piston backinto the caliper as it compresses it.
Anytime the brake rotor or brake pads are being replaced, the rear caliper piston must be seated (bottomed) to compensate for the new brake rotor or lining. Because the Parking Brake self-adjuster mechanism is attached to the piston, a special seating method is required. The only acceptable method is by rotating the piston back into the bore using Retractor,MILLER Special Tool 8807, . Any other seating method will damage the self-adjuster mechanism.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Left rear brake caliper on a 4 wheel disc has stuck and wore the pads down to the metal. I am not able to reseat the piston into the bore. I have tried rotating the piston cw and ccw with no luck. I have...

Unfortunately, you need a 'cylinder rewind tool.
That's what made it impossible to compress.
It's basically a 'vice', but it turns, and thus screws the cylinder in.
It's a specialised tool.

2006 honda accord rear brake pads

You can screw the rear caliper pistons back in, by using a needle nose pliers and turning the cross or x notch in a clockwise direction. both caliper pistons will turn the same way. The reason they "screw" out, is for positive locking pressure when the parking brake is engaged.

Rear brakes (2006 VW jetta) Caliper/ Piston- I am replacing my brack pads and resurfacing my rotors. First we could not find the Triple square (Napa auto parts) but now we are unable to get the piston to...

I had the exact problem today on my in-laws 06 jetta. Come to find out - this model has an electrical parking brake in the rear. The piston will not go in manually like other disc brakes. You must disconnect the electrical wire in the back and run a jumper to the connection from a power source like the battery and the piston will go in.
