My battery died and I replaced it with one of identical size, amps, etc. The cables are tight and can only go on one side of the battery. I didn't notice that the polarity of the new battery was the opposite of the original one until I put the second cable on the battery.
I re-connected it properly but the car now won't do anything. Any idea what could be fried?
Thanks,
Mike.

Sounds as if you need the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The contacts inside are most likely worn out.

How long did the 2nd alt. last before it died? The voltage regulator is, I believe, attached to the alternator. Have u had the voltage regulator checked?

Hi, check the fuse box for a blown fuse in the radio slot. sometimes during jumps, this fuse will blow.

Start the engine, and remove the positive cable from the battery, if it stays running your alternator is most likely o.k. because the engine stays running from alternator current once it starts.
I have had 5 of these trucks 1994 to 1997 and I have had to replace many batterys and alternators, and I have even gotten new alternators where the current was not strong enough, that will make the battery light stay on sometimes also.
