For the last 3 weeks my engine light will come on and stay on for a couple days then go off. This morning I went to drive and my mile, RPM, and thermostat gauge did not move. I started truck up again and it they began to work. The engine also sound loud when I first start it in the morning. Took it to autozone when light was on and they said I needed to replace my gas top again. That was 3 weeks ago.

It needs a code scanner hooked up to it,to tell you why the light is on and the cause. If there is an autozone near you take it there or
call different auto part stores to find out if they do that.Without getting the code, it's just guessing what the problem is.

All these code's are to your transmission, your mech needs to do more then pull code's, he needs to look at date on sensor to transmission before opening.
P0740 - Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit
P0758 - Shift solenoid (B) electrical
P0785 - Shift timing solenoid
P0761 - Shift solenoid (C) performance or stuck off
I would try Trans - X first pores right in to trans.

You engine is TBI, It uses a MAP sensor check the vacuum line for crack and make sure yo have a good seal, The distributor also check and make sure the pick up does not have corrosion which causes the relutor to stick. As for the EGR it would cause a misfire, and yes the do fail. I am sticking with the IAC as a problem its a stepper motor and has a high failure rate, chack also the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) for corrosion that gives false reading.

Can you get accurate reading from diagnostic without engine light being on?
The check engine light does not have to be on to retrieve trouble codes if they have been recorded.
