Transmission will not drop into passing gear. The RPM's will race up to near shut off point and the car acts like it is in neutral. The service engine soon light will also flash then turn off soon after I release the gas peddle. If I drive normal the car will go as fast as I want but as soon as I get aggressive and push the peddel to the floor it will not respond. Starting from a stop and pushing the peddel to the floor the car will respond and go through the gears. I have thought of changing tran fluid but is this a tran rebuild or maybe a sensor. Please help.
My car did (past tense) the same thing. The service engine light is flashing until you let off the gas because raw fuel is being dumped into the catalytic converter. The transmission won't shift because the converter is plugged. When you push the pedal to the floor the transmission computer holds the transmission in gear. Meanwhile the engine computer is raising the rpms. It will seem like a transmission problem but it is more likely a plugged catalytic converter. I had converter changed. The engine has A LOT more power, great acceleration and the transmission shifts perfectly.

Thanks, I will look into the catalytic converter. I recently ruled out a bad transmission, so I was going to try a simple tune up since the car is pushing a 100k.
