Hey angie, thanks a bunch for your help....so far the fuses seem good to go, and the voltage on the battery is okay...according to my dad it does need to charge, he thinks it could either be the brain or the cellonoid, because the lights still seem to turn on really bright, but absolutely no sound from the car when the key goes in, no clicks, no nothing. i hope its nothing serious!

ASE Mechanic here. check all the fuses to start, and check voltage on battery. if there was a battery draw all night the vehicle might have started but the alternator could not charge the battery because its power was too low and causing the ignition to die and then not allowing the vehicle to start. keep me posted!!!!!!!!!!!

My jeep does not turn over, but it makes a horrible grinding noise

for a vehicle to feel different and empty , it begs the question --did you get into the right vehicle
would not be the first time that the key fits the switch of the same make of vehicle but belongs to some one else
next have the service center check for loose starter and other bits falling off
run the fault codes

My 96 grand cherokee is shutting down, have replaced almost everything but crank sensor will this be the end of my problems???please help

If the crank sensor is failing, you should get a check engine light and a trouble code for it.
Have you had the computer checked for trouble codes ?

The car that broke down is a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee and what happened last night is that we were on our way across the state to my other aunts house for the night and then to my grandpa's in the morning...

What is wrong is one of the computers that tell the engine what to do is bad. I would say that it is the ECM, or the BCM. With the gauges going hay wire I would say the BCM or body control module. But if the ECM or Engine Control Module is sending the wrong signal to the BCM it could be the ECM. It is going to be one of the two.

I didn't learn a whole lot from your narration but it seems that there is a high probability that something has gone wrong with the charging system. Unless you have a good battery charger and can charge the battery and see if it starts (if it does, it's not fixed but likely you can get it to a good local shop for diagnosis) You cannot charge a battery by jumping it with another vehicle. It won't work and can damage the other vehicle. There is nothing you can do there without the proper meters etc.
Otherwise, your best bet is to have it towed to whoever generally works on it and have them take a look at it for you.
Good luck!!!

1994 Jeep Grand cherokee 5.2 no start

Check the crank angle sensor sensor near the transmission inspection plate.

CAS can intermittent and fail with no warning.

I turn down a job because the "other guy": used a tire iron pry open the inspect the flywheel!!!

After all said and done.......it was the crank angle sensor.

Shuts off will driving, especially if I hit a bumpy road.

check the wires to the fuel pump if they have rubbed against something and the insulation wore through hitting bumps or rain could cause it to short and kick the relay and resets again and will start

1999 jeep cheroke sport died while driving and wouldn't restart.

i had the same thing happen last year. it was a bad chip. i had to take it to the dealership to have the chip replaced. it cost about 200.00. it was not a big deal at all. after that though, my freeze plug busted and my alternator went out. but now all those problems are fixed. how come when you get a car paid off, everything starts going wrong??

1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo

Sounds like a bad ground.Check for broken connections or corroded terminals especially around the battery as acid tends to seep from them and corrode the connections.
