Shifting problem Automatic transmission in a 1998 Civic LX (w/145k) has a shifting problem between 2nd and 3rd gear. The shift will be not smooth and takes a second to engage into 3rd. Though if I drive harder and have it shift over 4500 RPM into 3rd, it will shift cleanly. I did a quick look at the transmission fluid, the level looks fine, the color is light red. The transmission jumps/surges when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but only if it shifts below 4500 RPM. It is not a clean shift into 3rd. It will rev up a little before going into 3rd. Otherwise, the other shifts, 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, are smooth.

00 Expedition trans shifts late and hard

Could be the transmission shift solenoids.
I've replaced dozens and so far, that was the problem every time.

Could either be your shifting linkage needs to be adjusted or your transmission solenoids need to be replaced

Why are you shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear ? is this a standard or automatic? If its a automatic its normal for the torque converter to catch up with the speeds of the tranny. To save the life of your tranny try to let the tranny do the work by itself and don't shift unless in adverse weather conditions.

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

check your shift linkages if the bushing is worn out you may have problems shifting or it could be a bad transmission

you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas

that could be a result of your clutch being worn.....or worn gears. have it checked by a professional
