I have a 1998 Nissan Altima and my warning lights come on mostly after the car has been running a while. Then they go back off after a couple miles. This seems to be happening more offten in the last week.

SOURCE: dashboard warning brake light stays on continuosly nissan altima

Try this, Since you are applying the hand brake. Manually pull up on the emergency pedal and see if the light goes out. If this does work then you could have one of several problems. but, I am thinking that you might be able to adjust the brake tensioner if this car has one.

SOURCE: 2002 nissan altima, no spark, no injector pulse, no start

nissans have an issue with crank angle positioning sensor, you must remove it and check for resistance, it definetly sounds like it cause crank sensors sometimes work when cold then shut off.

Nissan Altima Dashboard Warning Lights and Meanings

The Nissan Master Warning Light, Explained
Basically, all the master warning light does is let you know that there's some other warning you should pay attention to. According to the 2015 Nissan Altima owner's manual, when the ignition is in the ON position, the master warning light will turn on with any of the following warnings:
-Loose fuel cap
-Door open
-Trunk open
-Low fuel
-Low windshield wiper fluid
-Check tire pressure warning
-No key detected (happens if the Nissan Intelligent Key is left outside the vehicle)
-Release parking brake (this should occur any time you start the car after setting the parking brake)
If your Master Warning Light comes on, please contact your local Nissan Dealer

2006 nissan altima has a rebuilt engine with less than 40 miles on it the service engine light came on and code is po420 where do i start?

Well you may need to drive the car for a couple hundred miles and then clear the code. Code 420 is for the catalytic converter not being up to an efficiency threshold. That means the cat is not working as well as it should be. It may be just that the car has not been run enough yet.

I have a 1998 Nissan Altima and my warning lights came on and car began running rough, eventually car died and has to be jumped to get running again, warning lights continue to come on, I was told it was...

Alternator does not usually cause engine to run rough. You can test the alternator with a voltmeter, if you have one. Measure voltage at the battery with engine running (jumper cables removed). Voltage should be 14-15 VDC. If you don't have a voltmeter, take the alternator off and have it tested at the parts store. Most stores will test for free before selling you a new one.
If the check engine light is on, you might also ask the parts store to scan the OBD II port for trouble codes. hese may tell a bigger story, especially is fixing the alternator is not the cause of roughness.

Going through alternators

Hi there, I am a girl (i.e. not car savvy), but I have a 1998 Altima as well, and the first time (4 months ago) I noticed the brake and battery lights on simultaneously, I took it to a Nissan service shop. Everything seemed fine until about a month ago when the symptoms returned. I ignored the problem for 3 days and the car just stopped running, period. Took it back to the shop, figured out it was a fauly alternator, got it sorted, no problem. Today (1 month after replacement), I see the same bloody problem, and I'm taking it back to the shop in the morning. I am wondering... is it the alternator, or something connected to the alternator that is malfunctioning? The 2 alternators put in were "rebuilt" since they didn't have genuine Nissan alternators available. I really hope the dealers aren't taking me for a merry ride.
