Up to last week I my heater was working for a awhile now it was ok but then I when i turn on the heat it blow out cold air. One or two days later i tryed it and and started blowing out heat but after ten second it went right back and blows out cold air please help me out with the problem
Could be air in the cooling system , try an bleed the system . On top of the thermostat housing is a bleeder valve , with the engine up to temp. open valve till coolant comes out . Is the coolant full ? What color is the coolant ? Have see where coolant turns like a muddy color an clogges the heater core an engine coolant passages . Check the heater hoses going into the fire wall ,are they hot ? Does your grand prix have manual or automatic climate control ? Duel zone ! Do you hear a clicking sound behind the instrument panel ? Bad temp blend auctuator .

Damper/flap for driver's side is probably stuck. Try moving the selector from cold to hot several times. Also, move the recirc/outside air control if the previous doesn't work.

it really sounds like a thermostat to me it wouldn't be a heater core

When the engine is cold,check the coolant level.
Make sure it's on max.

A coolant system should be flush every two years.

If you did a coolant flush recently then air pocket can be the cause of the un-even heating problem.
The DIY method is to drive you car onto a ramp or a steep hill.
Iet the engine cool off and top off the coolant tank.
Set MAX heat + MAX fan
Let the engine ran for 20 minutes wih the cap off and the trap air will escape from the coolant reserve tank,
Check coolant level and top off coolant when the engine cools down.
A shop will charge $75+ for this but using an air operated excavate tool!
========
A car with over 90K miles may experience linkage problem to the heater control valve.
The heater control valve (near the firewall) may be stick over time.
Open the hood and move the heater to max and min. Back and forth.
Clean and lube the linkage with WD-40 to free the heater control valve.
If it's a vacuum type heater control valve then cash for leaky vac. hoses.
=======
Move the fan switch back and forth to re-new the electrical conductors.
Pass a vacuum over the control panel to prevent dust build up behind the console.

is the temp gauge working and showing the engine is warmed up? also check the heater hoses in the engine compartment ensure both are at the same or close to the same temp. if they are not could have plugged heater core. try flushing. possible blend door could be stuck.
Testimonial: "I had already flushed the heater core after further reshearch and you were dead on. 10 second flush and now I have heat."

also check to see if tube that runs your climate door is not pinched or broken. the vaccum tube that runs the climate door is behind and under the battery. i had same problem a year ago and the tube was partially cut. i fixed it by cuttinga piece of aquarium tubing and spliced it back together. one other thing.....check to see if your radiator over flow cap is tight. your cap maybe bad and or cracked this would also cause the problem.
