1997 sonata windscreen washer pump

First, listen to the washer fluid pump. Before attempting to unclog the washer fluid jets, turn them on and listen for the low hum of the washer fluid pump. If the jets are clogged, you will hear the pump despite no fluid spraying.

Then, Inspect the jets for external blockages. Locate the jets on the top of your hood near the windshield and look for signs that something has blocked them.

At last, Use a pin to clear deeper blockages. If wiping away blockages does not clear the jets sufficiently to allow washer fluid to spray out, try using a pin or needle to clear the holes.

You press the washer stalk to operate the rear washer but quite commonly the washer jet blocks up and will not release water.

You need to use a pin to try & unblock it. If this doesn't work (and it probably will not) you need to remove the trim on the inside of the boot, unclip the high level brake light & wash out the nozzle with warm water.

Most likely the pump (motor) is gone and needs replacement. However, it is worth checking that fuse allocated to windscreen washer is intact. Furthermore, you may also need to check the wiring for flow of current at lever end (handle on the steering wheel) and wires connecting to pump on the water reservoir.

The washer pump is usually mounted on the reservoir or very close to it, that type of pump does not **** very well so it needs a head of fluid to be able to pump.

If the pump runs then the nozzles are blocked. Use a pin or needle to clear the blockage from the nozzle.(Stick it in the little hole pointed at the windscreen.) Be careful not to break the pin off in the nozzle.
See if you are able to pull the pipes off from the underside of the nozzles. Clear the nozzle using the pin. Then point the pipe into the underside of the nozzle and activate the washer in order to rinse the nozzle.

Do you hear a buzzing noise?if noy then its your washer pump if you do then its your washer jets are clogged up with dirt a fine needle will unblock them

you need to remove it. its located under the wheel arch on the same side as the water tank.

The filter is located in the washer bottle itself. Remove the pump(pull out) from the water bottle and the filter is the black seal the pumps fits into. Pull this out and rinse.

If it is the same as some other Chevrolets they have 2 pumps attached to the side of the washer bottle. 1 for rear and 1 for front windscreen
