Surburban has gone into four wheel drive and will not come out
We tried to put our 2001 surburban into four wheel drive and now it will not come out to drive it. We bought a new four wheel drive switch but that did not fix the problem. can you help.
Re: surburban has gone into four wheel drive and will not...
You might want to check the gear selector switch that is located on the driver side of the tranny, if the 4x4 is electric and not manual for engagement, selector must read neutral to disengage 4 wheel drive. by experience if you drove it through deep water gear selector switch can get damaged.

need to look under at the drive train and check the c/v joints the transaxle case seals etc noise can be anything from bearings to gear or seals failing
try checking your silinoid. Some of these newer vehicles have an electronic silinoid that is responsible for engaging your transfer case into four wheel drive. Also if you have push button or shift on the fly four wheel drive your switch may have gone bad. I hope this helps you.
There is a four wheel drive relay unit located up under your dashboard on the passenger's side that has gone bad. 2 bolts hold it in, and just a wire bundle connector to plug into. Costly to replace. Maybe about $200 just for the 4 WD relay unit.
it sounds to me like the motor that switches the transfer case into 4 wheel drive DO NOT try to put it in 4 wheel. There should be no problem driving it as it is but if you continue to try it may get stuck in between and cause major problems
