Hi Sarah:
When you open and close the door you will see that it swings on hinges.
If you look at the hinges you will see that they are attached to the car and the door with bolts.
Swing the door open and place blocks under it (or floor jacks) to support it, then undo the hinge bolts. Do the botttom hinge first.
You'll also probably have to disconnect some wires if there are any electricals.
Doors can be heavy so don't drop it.
Also, don't drive the vehicle without having a drivers door installed.
Cheers.
Dome lamps operate from door latches. Most common problem is drivers door latch switch. The switch is built into the latch assembly and is accessed by removing door panel. Try spraying WD 40 into latch assembly and opening/closing door several times to see if this corrects the problem. If a 2 door with side opening doors to rear, possible broken wiring to the swing door where it meets the body
The latch may be in the closed position even thought he door is open. Compare it to the passenger latch if it looks like it is latched you need to pull the handle and use a tool to swing the latch into the open position.
If there's no fuel door button inside the car (passenger door, center console, driver's door, etc) then you may just be able to push on the actual fuel door. Push on the front edge of the fuel door and it should swing open. I know a lot of Volkswagens are like this and since they're the same company, the door should open the same
Remove the interior trim panel which will not be easy since the gate is up ---- you can then access the lock mechanism and will probably find a bent linkage rod or a broken plastic retainer clip.
