SOURCE: 1998 Chevy tahoe Hard to start when cold

Hello, yes the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly. The check valve is leaking and the pump will burn out soon. Unfortunately the aftermarket fuel pumps can be very unreliable. A good portion of problems we see on this site are from people who replace the pump sometimes twice and it still doesn't work.

SOURCE: 97 z71 vortec 5.7 replaced fuel pump.getting fuel but won't start

The # 5 cylinder is miss firing. not getting fuel. Could the injector just be stopped or the crankshaft sensor in gone.

SOURCE: 97 Chevy Tahoe is hard to start , problem is worse

This is just a guess- but I would try changing out the coolant temp sensor- this tells the computer that the engine is cold and needs a bit more fuel to start. If this is happening even when warm- look for a vacum leak.

SOURCE: Tahoe 97 Fuel problems

Crank sensor has to be bad,or the ignition module.Remove the ignition module and have it checked at the parts store. If it checks bad, replace it,if it checks good replace the cranksensor. The cam sensor, cranksesor, and the control module control injector pulse, and coil spark.I would point more to the ignition module. But I have known the crankshaft sensor to do this also.I hope this was helpful,if so,let us know, thanks, and good luck.

Runs idle but stalls when give gas

Yes. Sometimes the internal screen deteriorates and clogs the fuel pump. You might want to replace the fuel filter and blow through it to see if it was clogged too.

97 Tahoe hesitates and sometimes acts like it will stall when accelerating. Stalls when coming to a stop.

even if you hear pump run, dosent mean it has enough pressure. it is very possible this is the problem. could be engine miss as well. does it jerk when accellerating (light load, like in overdrive up a hill?) let me know.

I have a 97 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 350 vortech, what wrench size do u use to take off my fuel filter ,that is the line going in.?

it just a basic tools. find the filter and see what size it is.
crawl under the truck on the driver's side, follow the fuel line from the fuel tank to the filter(shape:cylindrical).
make sure the line has no pressure. you should pull the fuse for the "fuel pump" relay, then start the engine and allow it to stall.

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.
