Hello, My car seems to slip sometimes when changing gears (Automatic gearbox). The revs will raise up but then after a second or two drop back into gear. It seems to happen when i am driving downhill or have just pushed the power button. Do you know what could be wrong? Cheers, Jack
I tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me
repair transmission problem in my ford explorer. it wont move forward or reverse, engine is good both solenoids for forward and reverse work.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and works perfect! got it from www.reliable-store.com

This transmission requires overhaul, it is likely the only solution, second hand units are almost impossible to find.

It is on the left side hard to spot. Look below the heater hoses. Good luck, take your time and have a great day.
SOURCE: button on console and power button
The power button extends the time in each gear, the other button I think your describing juts up vertically in front of the AT selector. if you press this down you'll find that you can move the selector without having the ignition key in, it's a get out of jail card really
4th gear disengagement:
The 4th gear is engaged automatically after the transmission has shifted through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears
at certain speeds and loads. By pressing in the button at the rear of the selector level, the 4th gear can be
disengaged, thus providing a three-speed transmission. As a reminder the
? light on the dashboard
glows. By pressing in the button again, the transmission reverts to four-speed operation and the
?
light shuts off.
This is straight out of the owner's handbook. What this indicates is that there may be a problem with the shift solenoid. On the highway, does is seem to rev high? Can you press the button on the shifter and have the light go out? let me know.
