VEHICLE SHOT SPARK PLUG OUT OF CYLINDER FOUR I REMOVED FRONT HEAD ASSEMBLY AND SENT HEAD OUT FOR REPAIR. INSTALLED NEW HEAD GASKET AND TIMED ENGINE PER MANUFACTUER MANUAL. TEST DROVE AND UNIT WAS OK. Do you know what caused the spark plug to shoot out of the cylinder in the first place ? The excess pressure could of damaged other components that are now manifesting themselves in the form of low oil pressure.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I would remove the distributor cap and crank the engine over . If the rotor does not turn , then you need to replace the timing belt. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 60 K. If the rotor turns then make sure you have spark to a spark plug. Run a compression test on each cylinder. The basics to run are compression, spark, fuel and timing.

If you replace the plugs,the ones that were made for your vehicle. And possibly spark plug wires, it should make quite a difference. Good-Day! It could be a injector making its rough idle on cylinder 2, But do above first!

Need to remove valve cover on 2000 Camry Toyota

For the four cylinder engine:

  1. Remove and label all electrical wiring, connectors and vacuum hoses necessary to gain removal clearance.
  2. Remove the spark plug wires. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  3. Remove the four nuts and grommets located on top of the cylinder head cover.
  1. Remove the cylinder head cover and the cover gasket from the cylinder head.
  2. Discard the gasket and replace with a new one.
To install:
  1. With a wire brush or gasket scraper, remove all the old gasket material from the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover gasket surfaces.
  2. When the cylinder head surfaces are free and clean, apply beads of sealant to the cylinder head in the locations shown in the accompanying illustrations.
  3. Install the new cylinder head gasket in the cover. Make sure that the gasket seats evenly.
  4. Place the cylinder head cover with the gasket onto the cylinder head.
  5. Install the four grommets and nuts. Uniformly tighten the nuts in several passes to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6. Connect the PCV hose. Connect all removed vacuum hoses, connectors and electrical wiring. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks.
  8. Repair any leaks as necessary.
For the V-6 (3.0L) engine:
  1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  2. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose.
  3. Disconnect the throttle and accelerator cables.
  4. Remove the air cleaner cap assembly.
  5. Remove the V-bank cover. Use a hexagon wrench to loosen the nuts.
  6. Label and remove all emission control valve hoses. Disconnect any wiring interfering with the valve cover removal.
  7. Remove the air intake chamber. This will gain you access to the back valve cover.
  8. Disconnect the engine wire from the left hand side, No. 3 timing belt cover, rear side and right hand side. Most of the wiring is secured by nuts and or bolts to the body of the vehicle.
  9. Remove the ignition coils, make sure the place them in order on a table so not to mix them up.
  10. Remove the 8 bolts retaining the valve covers and gasket.
  11. Clean the mating area of the valve cover and cylinder heads well. If necessary, scrape any left gasket from either surface.
  12. Apply seal packing to the cylinder heads and place new gaskets into position.
  13. Attach the valve covers. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  14. Install the spark plugs in their proper locations, then place the ignition coils into place and secure.
  15. Attach all engine wiring be sure to secure each harness properly.
  16. Install the air intake chamber. Refer to Fuel System .
  17. Attach all emission hoses and wiring.
  18. Attach the V-bank cover.

Where are soark plugs

Vehicles: 2000 Kia Sportage 4-cylinder 2.0L MFI DOHC 1998-2002

They're hidden underneath the coil cover, which is partially obscured by the accelerator cable bracket, which is obstructed by the air intake.

They're accessed from the top of the engine.

If you don't have a compressed air line to blow dirt away from around the plugs before removing them, one may blow through a plastic drinking straw (while closing eyes), or use a can of compressed air (with a little red plastic straw) sold for use cleaning computer PC boards/keyboards.

Where the manual (below) says "carefully install the spark plug into the cylinder head", you may consider one or another of a couple of experienced mechanic's tricks (used to avoid cross-threading the plug thus damaging the head):
trick 1: start plug by putting plug onto the end of a piece of stiff-ish hose, and
start the threads by gently turning the end of the hose. Once plug has
safely started turning into its threads, switch to a spark plug socket.
trick 2: use the spark plug socket, but carefully start the plug by gently
turning the plug COUNTER-clockwise, until the plug drops a hair - at this
point you know you've found the start of the first thread. Then gently thread
the plug in clockwise.

Spark Plugs - Removal & Installation

WARNING
Do not attempt to remove spark plugs when the engine is hot.

(1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.
(2) Remove the air intake hose assembly.
(3) Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
(4) Remove the six bolts and coil cover from cylinder head cover.
(5) Remove the four bolts and the two coils from the cover.
(6) Disconnect the high tension leads from the spark plugs by twisting the boot and removing.
(7) Use compressed air to remove any dirt from around the spark plug hole.
(8) Make sure the spark plug socket fits squarely on the spark plug, and then remove.

To install:

(1) Be sure the spark plug gap is set to 0.039-0.043 in. (0.98-1.09mm).
(2) Apply anti-seize compound or light lubricating oil (WD-40 or 3-in-1) to the spark plug threads.
(3) Carefully install the spark plug into the cylinder head and torque to 11-17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
(4) Reconnect high tension leads to the spark plugs.
(5) Install the two ignition coils and torque four mounting bolts to 14-19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
(6) Install the coil cover and secure with six bolts
(7) Install the accelerator cable bracket.
(8) Reconnect the air intake hose assembly
(9) Reconnect the negative battery cable.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    Timing chain(s) Right rear cassette chain, tensioner and sprocket Jackshaft sprocket and chain on the engine and remove the tensioner pin
  2. Torque the jackshaft sprocket bolt in 2 stages:
    1. 32-35 ft. lbs. (43-47 Nm).
    2. Turn an additional 65 degrees.
  3. Install or connect the following:
    Cylinder heads Front cover Oil pan Engine to the vehicle Negative battery cable
  4. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist.
  3. Remove the intake manifold.
  4. Remove the fuel supply manifold.
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  6. Remove the thermostat housing.
  7. Remove the roller followers.
    NOTE You must retime the LH and RH camshafts when either camshaft is disturbed. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position the number one cylinder at top dead center (TDC).

    NOTE The special tool must be installed on the damper and should contact the engine block to position the engine at TDC.
  8. Install the special tool.
    NOTE The right-hand camshaft sprocket bolt is a left-hand threaded bolt.
    NOTE If necessary, use camshaft gear torque adapter to loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt.

Need head bolt torqe for 3100 and should bolts be dry

The bolts should have thread lock on them when installing, and the torque is done in 2 steps. 33 ft lbs. and then 90 deg. after that on the second pass. 3.1L Engine CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion. LEFT SIDE (FRONT)
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  4. Disconnect the top half of the air cleaner assembly, then remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
  5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and crossover pipe.
  6. Disconnect the spark plug wires from spark plugs and looms then route the wires out of the way.
  7. Remove the rocker arm (valve) covers.
  8. Remove upper intake plenum and lower intake manifold.
  9. Remove the left side exhaust manifold.
  10. Remove oil level indicator tube. NOTE: When removing the valve train components they must be kept in order for installation in the same locations they were removed from.
  11. Remove rocker arms nut, rocker arms, balls and pushrods.
  12. Unfasten the cylinder head bolts evenly, then remove the cylinder head from the engine compartment. Remove and discard the gasket. To install:
  13. Clean all the gasket surfaces completely. Clean the threads on the cylinder head bolts and block threads.
  14. Place the cylinder head gasket in position over the dowel pins on the cylinder block so the words THIS SIDE UP are showing.
  15. Coat the bolt threads lightly with sealer, then install finger-tight.
  16. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). With all the bolts tightened make a second pass tightening all the bolts an additional 90°.
  17. Install the pushrods, rocker arms, balls and rocker arm nuts in their proper locations. Tighten the rocker arm nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  18. Install the lower intake manifold and upper intake plenum.
  19. Install the rocker arm (valve) covers.
  20. Install the oil level indicator tube. Insert the dipstick.
  21. Connect the spark plug wires to spark plugs and looms.
  22. Install the left side exhaust manifold.
  23. Install the exhaust crossover pipe and heat shield.
  24. Refill the cooling system.
  25. Install the top half of the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet duct.
  26. Connect negative battery cable.

RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD (REAR) CAUTION
Fuel Injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the top half of the air cleaner assembly and remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
  5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and crossover pipe.
  6. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  7. Detach the Oxygen (O2) sensor connector.
  8. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  9. Remove the right side exhaust manifold.
  10. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  11. Disconnect the spark plug wires from spark plugs and wire looms and route the wires out of the way.
  12. Remove the rocker arm (valve) covers.
  13. Remove upper intake plenum and lower intake manifold. NOTE: When removing the valve train components they must be kept in order for installation in the same locations they were removed from.
  14. Remove rocker arms nut, rocker arms, balls and pushrods.
  15. Unfasten the cylinder head bolts evenly, then remove the cylinder head from the engine compartment. Remove and discard the gasket. To Install:
  16. Clean all the gasket surfaces completely. Clean the threads on the cylinder head bolts and block threads.
  17. Place the cylinder head gasket in position over the dowel pins on the cylinder block so the words THIS SIDE UP showing.
  18. Coat the bolt threads lightly with sealer, then install finger-tight.
  19. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). With all the bolts tightened make a second pass tightening all the bolts an additional 90°.
  20. Install the pushrods loosely retained with the rocker arm assemblies. Make sure all pushrods are in the correct locations. Coat the ends of the pushrods with prelube. The intake rods are marked yellow and are 5 3?4 inch long. The exhaust pushrods are marked green and 6 inches long. balls and rocker arm nuts. Tighten the rocker arm nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  21. Install the lower intake manifold and upper intake plenum.
  22. Install the rocker arm (valve) covers.
  23. Connect the spark plug wires to spark plugs and wire looms.
  24. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  25. Install the exhaust manifold.
  26. Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  27. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  28. Connect the Oxygen (O2) sensor wiring.
  29. Install the exhaust crossover pipe and heat shield.
  30. Refill the cooling system.
  31. Install the top half of the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet duct.
  32. Connect negative battery cable.
  33. Start vehicle and verify that there are no leaks.

Spark Plug: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 43094 Spark Plug Boot Puller
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
3. Use the J 43094 in order to remove the spark plug boots from the spark plugs.
NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause the plug
threads to seize causing damage to cylinder head threads.
NOTE: Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could result in engine damage because of dirt or
foreign material entering the cylinder head, or by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent the
proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any contamination.
4. Remove the spark plugs from the engine.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the
vehicle. Installing spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
NOTE: Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round
feeler gage to ensure an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor engine performance and may even damage the
engine.
1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement to the gap specifications. Refer to Spark Plug Usage.
Correct as necessary.
NOTE: Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary,
to clean threads in the cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or
thread damage.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the spark plugs to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the spark plug to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
3. Install the spark plug boots to the ignition coil assembly.

Oil in the spark plug area

Hi! This is not normal.What is happening,two of your cylinders are oiling.This is sign that your rings or your valve seals are bad.
