To reset the light, turn the key to position two and have the drivers door open for about 40 seconds, the light should automatically go off.. good luck.

Burnt bulbs, bad wiring. For the dome, it could be a bad dimmer switch.

How to replace my brakelight switch on my 1987 mercury cougar?

The brake light switch is under the dashboard beside the lever from the brake pedal itself. It is difficult to get to (almost requires that you are either extremely patient or a contortionist) but removes and replaces easily with two bolts and a connector that you unplug from the old one and plug in to the new one. Look under the dash, follow the brake pedal lever upward, and you will see the switch.

95 cougar stuck in park with no brake lights.already check the fuses replaced brake light switch, connector.car will not start from neutral.

Still no brake lights would indicate a bad wire. Check for power at the brake switch, repair the wire, they usually break close to the plug. This will get back the lights and shifter. The no start would be the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Usually the switch is under the shifter cable. Some have a separate switch.

94 cougar stuck in park and no brake lights

some of these had a switch on the brake master cylinder that will short out and blow the brake fuse. unplug that switch , and check the fuse, replace it if its blown. (brake lamp fuse) the switch is used for the cruise control.

1999 Mercury Cougar 2.5L initially blower motor died, hazard lights stopped working, ran great, but now will not shift out of park.

this sounds like you should be keeping up with checking fuses with a test light on both sides of the fuse, the inter lock solenoid on the shift cable is not powering up,check your brake switch.
