The left headlight of my 2006 Audi A4 quattro has this annoying -- and dangerous -- problem: 1. The left headlight flickers 2. It then turns itself off 3. The message "left dipped headlight" appears 4. The message is changed to a sign indicating that the lightbulb has failed. If I turn the light off (Note: We're talking about driving at night here) and turn it back on again, the light will become normal again, for about a few minutes and then the cycle repeats itself. This problem is intermittent. It has been occurring a lot recently with the cold weather. I can't tell for sure whether it is temperature related. My Audi dealer said that Audi knows about this problem but doesn't know how to fix it -- changing the light bulb doesn't solve the problem. Has anyone encounter this problem and get Audi to fix it? ... Mike 02 A4, and the temp recently dropped heavily here. I noticed that my left headlight is out and I'm getting the dipped message as well. I'll check this afternoon as I have heated parking. Will be interesting to see if it works when warm. I have the exact, same problem. At least I know I shouldn't take it in to have them 'replace' the bulb. My dealer said that they 'flashed' the chip but that didn't seem to fix the problem. Happens in the cold, and after a few times of switching on and off it seems to stay put. Wondering what the best way to elevate this seemingly 'common' problem to Audi??
Hi,I dont know if your Audi has the same problems as SAAB and VW but they suffer from what is called a dry joint on the circuit board inside the headlamp control relay, what happens is as the board heats up it causes expansion/contraction on the bad solder joint causing all sorts of component failures headlamps just being one of them, remove the relay and open it and on close inspection you will find the (dry joint/s) if your handy with a soldering iron a fraction of the price of some of these relays, you can re-melt the solder on the bad joints to cure the problem.

I have the same issue on my 2002 A4. According to my Audi dealer mechanic, there is a sensor on the front suspension that controls the angle of the headlight. Replacing this may resolve the issue.
