Do both wheels lock or just one. If you have a bositive rearend this may be hard to tell. With that age of truck you may have loose rubber in the flexable hoses that connect the pistons to the tubing at the wheels.. this aged flexable hose or hoses my be causing your problem. Just a suggestion. I have had this hapen on older vehicles

You can adjust the shoes outward on the rear by removing the wheels and drums, then above the axle but below the wheel cylinder you will see an arm that is horizontal, pushing both of the shoes outwards. There should be an adjustment nut that you can turn to extend the arm to push the shoes out.

Rear brake shoe replacement on a 98 chevy 3500 dually

If you have drums on the rer yes you do have to remove the axle its simple though you unbolt the 6-8 bolts on the end of the axle then it just simply slides out thats it there mite be some resistance but there isnt anything else holding it in. and you dont have to worry about putting it back into the same spot eather just slide it back in and line up the drum.

Rear brakes dont work on my 1986 chev 4x4

I would like a bit further clarification on this one.
What do you mean they won't work? When you press the brakes they just don't lock up? j
Or have you jacked it up and when you turn the wheel, and someone presses the brakes the tires won't stop?

Is there any leaks? Is the brake pedal soft at all?

Remember that vehicles are designed to have like, 75 percent of the braking done with the front brakes, due to the most weight of the vehicle is at the front, and the back brakes would lock up way to easily.
So don't be confused by this. :)

Do any lights come on or anything? Have you checked the drums and shoes? Are they in good condition?

Let me know! I hope this helps!

I replaced all 4 brakes on my 98 chevy malibu. for some reason i am not getting pressure back. but am being told i dont need to bleed the brakes. should i anyway. or could the adjusted on the rear drums...

Both air in the brake lines and rear drums too far out of adjustment will cause the pedal to go to the floor repeatedly.

Bleed from the wheel that's farthest away from the master cylinder first, typically driver's side rear. Then bleed the others, ending with the one that's closest to the master cylinder. Generally, right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

Adjust the rear brakes until you hear them rub a bit as you turn the wheel, then back off a couple of notches. Be sure to use the brakes when backing up at first, let them adjust themselves up to where they should be.

Whenever i apply pressure to my breaks every time im approaching a traffic light or stop sign, i immediately hear a clicking noise. i dont feel anything in the pedal so im confused.

It is most likely the brake pads are worn out,if the clicking is from the front,if it is in the rear pull the wheels and check the brake shoes, there may be some hardwear that has came apart inside the drum.
