Transfer case bolts are loose. I need torque specs for the bolts.

The transfer case is leaking where the gasket is, and I am thinking that if I torque down the bolts to the right spec that it will stop the leaking on the right , lower side.

SOURCE: 87 samurai bolt torque specs for engine

The haynes book is not recommended since there are numerous mistakes and they still will not update. One of the biggest is the firing order.

The factory service manual is the only way to go.

Head bolts - 46 - 50.5 lbs (there is an order sequence for the bolts)

Intake & exhuast manifolds- 13.5 - 20 lbs

Flywheel - 41.5 - 47 lbs

Clutch cover - 13.5 - 20 lbs

SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan gasket

There likely is a spec for oil pan but unless you are a finatic, you really don't need to know what it is. Simple rule: Don't crank down ******* any fastener. If corners near crank ends have larger fasteners, you can tighten them a bit more than on siderails. Before tightening anything, install all bolts finger tight, to ensure that they are not cross threaded. To avoid warping pan, tighten from the center of the pan, working towards both ends, alternating from side to side as you go. When you are finished, go over it again, using the same amount of force on each bolt. As I said, end bolts can if larger in diameter, be tightened more but be careful not to tighten so much that you will either split or push the gasket out the sides.. Anywhere two gasket ends **** together, I recommend using a sensor -safe dab of silicone. An oil pan is not under any mechanical stress or pressure. I have used this method for many years and NEVER had one leak. If you really need #s, small fasteners get about 12-15in lbs, larger ones about 20.

I am leaking transmission fluid right where the transfer case is how do i replace the gasket?

I assume this is a truck, you will need to remove the driveshaft and then remove the bolts holding the transfer case to trany, theres a gasket that goes there but the real problem is the seal, once you remove the transfer case look inside the rear of the trany you will see a seal that seals that shaft replace that seal there should not be any oil in that space, hope this helps.

My truck makes a clunking noise from ,I think the tranfer case when under heavy load? Could i be the u-joints?

It could vary well be U-joints or maybe a broken mount, loose bolts. I've the bolts come loose that hold the transfer case to the transmission they will usually leak fluid when that happens.

Transfer case replacement

Make sure you set your parking break and block your wheels to keep the vehicle from rolling.Just drop the rear driveshaft, there are 4 bolt that connect it to the rearend and it should just slip outof the transfer case, unhook the linkage, unplug the speedometer sensor/cable, disconnect the front drive shaft I think that on this driveshaft there are four bolts that connect it to the front end and 4 connecting to the transfer case. I think that there are 4 or either 6 bolts that fasten the transfer case to the tranny once you take them off the case should just slip off. If you need to for clerance reasons you can take loose the transmission mount and remove the crossmember support and let the tranny hang down. Be carefull when you let the tranny hang down because tranny fluid will more than likely poor out so have a catch pan handy and watch it when you pull the transfer case off because your going to leak some fluid out there to and also this thing is heavier than it looks. Two people can probally handle it but I recommend using a floor jack of some sort.
