Inner Ball Joint

How do you remove the inner ball joint on a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker (passenger side)? I have some slack in that ball joint and want to replace it before I get it alligned.

New tires and all, dont want to ruin them before I get to enjoy them...

Thanks...

Michael

Should say Inner Tie Rod End, not Ball Joint...

  • Anonymous Feb 14, 2009

Easier that I thought. Just bend the locking tabs back and unscrew with a wrench. Repete process to install new one. Just make sure you get the alignment somewhat realtive to what it was and take it somwhere imediately to be aligned.

SOURCE: removing the three rivets ona ball joint

In a shop, I generally cut heads off with an air chisel. At home, you can drill a small hole, dead center in the rivet head, then use a larger drill , but don't go all the way through, just enough to get the head off...Then take a punch and drive out remainder of the rivet.

The ball joints on both 2wd and 4wd upper are pressed in you need to remove snap ring and using a hammer pop out the old one out this is after you seperate the upper arm from the spindle. To install the new ball joint you should use a ball joint press that you can rent at most autoparts shops

2000 Dodge Durango. WHAT DO I DO WHEN THE MECHANIC IS WRONG?

The tie rod ends should have a taper to them and likewise, the knuckle will have a taper to the hole the tie rod end goes into. As long as the tapers match, you are good. As far as driving without an alignment, if it feels secure when you drive, I wouldn't worry about it. You might get excess tire wear, but if you are only driving for a few days until the parts are in, you should be fine.

How to remove inner CV joint on a 2005 kia amanti

To remove an inner CV joint, you must remove the entire half-shaft from the vehicle. Here is the procedure:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

Front wheel Spindle nut Lower ball joint from the knuckle
  3. Press the stub shaft out of the hub, use a plaster hammer if necessary.
  4. If removing the left side halfshaft:
    1. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the inner joint out of the transaxle.
  5. If removing the right side halfshaft:
    1. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the inner joint out of the center bearing bracket.
    2. Remove the center bearing bracket mounting bolts.
    3. Using a suitable pry bar, pry the center bearing bracket from the cylinder block.
    4. Remove the inner shaft from the transaxle.

The individual joints CAN be replaced, but this requires disassembly of the half-shaft by cutting the clamps that hold the boots and frankly is a greasy mess. Remanufactured half-shafts are available for less than $100 USD and are already assembled for immediate installation.

1991 ford tempo passenger axle how do I remove it

You will need to remove the passenger wheel and large nut holding the axle to the center of the hub of the spindle. Then remove the nut and un-seat the lower ball joint. Separate the lower control arm from the spindle and pull spindle out while pushing axle in, separate the spindle from the axle and tie aside out of the way. The axle is held into the trans-axle with a circlip, you will need to get a pry bar behind the inner CV joint and pop the inner spline joint out of the trans-axle.

Ineed to fixed my axle. i suppost that cvjoint is included to these problem.

Not sure of your question but basically to change the axle remove tire, remove axle nut, remove cotter pin for ball joint followed byt the casttle nut, disconnect ball joint from nuckle and then remove axle from hub. Remove roll pin that goes through the inner joint with a punch and remove axle. Do the reverse to install axle. Pay attention to inner joint as it can only go in one way.
