97 celica - key stuck in accessory position until battery dies

Key won't turn to off position, stops at accessory. Will turn completely to off position only when battery is drained from being left in accessory position. Also, shifts from park through 3rd without depressing button on the side of the shifter (it's an automatic). Think this is a problem with the shifter rather than the ignition lock cylinder, but need help!

Check your ground connections from the battery to the frame and from the battery to the engine block of your celica check all fuses and relays if nothing else check battery cables themselves for tightness and any corrosion

My 2000 celica gts won't start when it is really

A no-start condition can occur with several different symptoms. Have a clear understanding of which one applies to your vehicle when having the problem diagnosed.

Here are the most common symptoms:

  • Engine will not turn over (or crank over)
  • Engine will turn over (crank) but will not start
  • Engine starts and dies (stalls)

96 celica won't turn over

If the engine won't crank, it could be the starter, battery, connections, neutral safety switch, or key switch.

Have you tried the reset method? Turn key to the ON position and leave it there for 10 minutes, or until the security light goes off. Then turn key to off, and back to on and start-see if it starts after letting it sit for a few minutes like that with the key in the on position.

Key locks in the ignition in the ACC position. can't take key out

when you turn key to acc pos that is telling the ignition to go into a accessory mode which runs the radio, wipers etc... but it doesnt allow the ignition circuit to run, and the key in most vehicles will not be able to come out, this is a security protection so that you do not leave accessories on that will drain the battery. The ignition key should only be able to be removed in the OFF position.

Car is completely turned off. (Key is out of ignition) But the accessories still work, the window still rolls down.. Will this drain my battery, what do I do?

this could be a ignition switch issue -- the contacts might not be disengaging when the key is in the off position,, or maybe it is making contact ( as if in the accessory position ). this could drain the battery if there are accessories left on in the car. the celica is known to have many issues with the ignition switch -- if you want it fixed right I would recommend taking the car to a automotive locksmith and have them replace the ignition switch with a new one.

Key stuck in accessory position

sounds like shifter or brake sensor is not working. Try holding brake peddle down while turning key. Also try turning steering wheel a little.

97 Celica - Key stuck in accesory position

while in park, press shifter firmly even farther above park. Hold shifter and turn key.
The linkage may need adjusting. If this does not help the situation, then the pins inside the ignition are not getting pressed down because key is getting worn. You can try to tap around the ignition lightly with hammer to shake the pins loose.
